Manual to auto tranny swap?

Just curious as to what it would cost to convert a C230k to an auto tranny from a manual. I have a 6spd 05' C230k SS and unfortunately I have to get surgery on my left knee for a torn meniscus. I was going to find someone to take over the remaining 24 months on my lease and pick up the 07' but then I'd have to shell out money again or carry a much higher payment than current. I love my car, but really need an auto while my knee recovers for a few months. So how much would it cost to convert? If i did do this, I'd just buy the car out and keep it so I'm not worried about what MB might say if I was to turn it in. Just weighing out my options. Any help is greatly appreciated fellas. Thanks!

Honestly your best bet is to sell this one and buy an exact one that is auto. A tranny can run you $$$$.

Is @ Home
just a suggestion but how about using the money that you were going to spend on the tranny swap to buy a temporary beater?

hope your recovery goes well

If you can do the work yourself and find a wrecked MB in a salvage yard that you can pull the automatic from it may only cost you $2,500 or so. To have the dealer do it with new parts, probably $6-8K.

Or you could trade me. I have an 05 C230K SS with 22k and I'll trade you my auto tranny for your manual tranny. What do you think?

not worth to do the swap. some people actually want to convert from auto to stick for performance reasons. i say sell the car and get an auto because of your situation

Totally agree here with white_w203 and MHPHOCKEY.

1. It's not economically sensible to switch from a manual to an automatic. The cost is too high.

2. It's a difficult and rare job and the performance and reliability could suffer.

3. The cost of replacing the transmission is in the thousands. It might even be cheaper to simply trade in the car for a brand new automatic. Worse case, get a pre owned automatic.
