Roof and Rain

Has any one know if the roof closes automatically when it rains in 2003 C230? I know it does not in my 2002 C230

It wasn't supposed to rain today so I left it open and suddenly there was this passing cloud dropped few gallons of water all over. Atleast it was not fully opened - only the tilt

The C230 does not have one touch closing therefore things like the Summer opening feature and the Tunnel mode feature do not apply to it. I would imagine the rain sensor close would be likewise. \
Sorry mate.

All these features should be listed in your manual. However this a short summary.

One Touch Closing:
When you open your window or sunroof without having to keep pushing the Button. The converse is true with the exception of the Sunroof on the Coupe.

Summer Opening Feature:
You can open the car, then hold down the open button again and after a few seconds if you point at the InfraRed sensor on your door, the windows will roll down and the sunroof will silde open.
Also the converse is true with the exception of the Sunroof on the coupe.

Tunnel Feature:
When you go through a tunnel, the air quality is usually pretty bad so your AC is desingned to cope with that. You push and hold your recirc button for about 2 seconds and all your windows and sunroof will close with the exception of the coupe's sunroof.
Again the converse holds true.

Hope that helps.

So can you get the pana roof to close with one touch?

Does anyone on the list keep the manual with them at work?

Better yet, does anyone have a 2003 to see if it was changed so the panorama roof does close with 1 touch?

When I get mine in 2 weeks if no-one has answered I'll post the answer.

No, no - don't get "One-Touch Closing" confused with "Summer-Open/Close"; you can close the Pana-roof with your key, but you need to keep the button depressed until it's fully closed, which takes just as long as when you do it from the inside via the button on the ceiling console - large roof = looong time. They're saving on the wrong end here. Equipping this wonderful automobile with a one-touch auto-close feature for the roof would have been a no-brainer.

The 2003 Pana roof will not close in the rain, unless you push, and hold the close button. For the Summer mod, I have only tilted the pana roof with the key fob. It did not open beyond the tilt. Windows go down at the same time the pana tilts. It does take longer to open with the key fob if the sun shade is closed as it needs to open first. There is no auto close, that has been covered in other threads. I believe it is due to all the steps that are required to close it. It would have to pass the half way stage, then pass the tilt and also lower the deflector panel. This would have taken a lot of programming and safety stops to ensure all pinch points are covered. Remember this is a relatively inexpensive car. I wouldn't want to pay one dime to have auto close. Besides it gives my finger something ELSE to do while driving around with wacko Oregon drivers.

Are you sure? I can't imagine the amount of programming to make sure it opens properly is anymore difficult than to close it properly.

if i press and hold down the unlock button on the key for summer open mode, it will lower the side windows, roll up the sunroof sunshade and tilt the sunroof up. if i press and hold the unlock key again, the sunroof will fully slide back.

the same works with the lock key and closing.

um....my coupe's sunroof and windows open and close with the smartkey....
After I took out the batteries and tweaked the connector tabs, it works from about 40 feet away. Standing on my deck, I was able to demonstrate this to the new girlfriend...it was almost as impressive as the steak I was grilling for dinner.

I wonder if the rainsensor can be re-programmed to automatically close the roof when the wipers are activated? MBTech...are you reading?

Once again, RTFM!

Need multiple presses of the fob for opening or closing the roof.
