Dealer test drive my car for 10 miles during repair

Hi,
Is it normal for a dealer to test drive your car for 10 miles during repair? I recently brought my car to a Mercedes dealer for repair due to engine check alert.

Thanks.

Yes, did you not want them to make sure the CEL is cleared?

if you don't want them to check and make sure the problem is fixed then yeah it's to much.

I think 10 miles is too much for a test drive especially for a check engine light.

My guess is someone took your car for a joy ride to get lunch.

Mechanic took it out to make sure the repairs worked, and that the problem didn't re-occur.

Perfectly normal, and professionally proper.

My dealer is only 5 miles away from my home. On weekdays when I go to the nearby restaurants and fast food chains, I often see the mechanics from my dealership eating there as well.

I haven't really seen them driving clients cars to get to these fast food outlets. Then again, I can't say that I doubt it's ever happened before.

I do see a lot of Porsches getting test driven by mechanics after service. They drive them a little too hard.

10 miles seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Ten sounds normal. You figure 5 mile drive on the freeway then 5 miles back to the shop.

10 miles is nothing. When you get your car back with over 2000 miles put on it like I did, then you have a problem.

Talking 10 Miles

Wait a minute, 10 MILES .!! did you say TEN MILES....

Next time you drop off, Tell the Service Advisor that you DO NOT want too much miles on your car...... so when the Mechanic have to test drive it, ASK them to put it on a flatbed to test drive it. Sounds GOOD

2000 Miles? That's why I hate to go drinking, you have to go back the next day to get your car, and bring back the one you took!

Are you sure it is your car?

10 miles for testing seems fine for me.

10 miles is nothing....

I had my car to MB workshop yestoday, they took it out for more than 50 miles.... It all comes down to what the problem is/was.

Yup. Do a search... you will find my thread in OT about it. It didn't involve MB, but Toyota said their hands were "tied" so they couldn't take action against the dealer. RIGGGGHT. Even though they gave me receipts with before and after mileage.....

This is why I tell everyone that no matter what you are checking in your car for..... make sure you get a documented receipt with mileage. Especially if you are dropping off a vehicle to a body shop at a dealer .
