based on my own experience, although i am no expert, i lowered my car with H&R springs..but kept the stock shocks.....the car is abt 1.5 inches lower...handles better....so..doest matter....but..everyone have different views..and different amt of money to spend

H&R coil over kit will go lower than 1.5", but you will be scraping your bottom if you're not carefull.

C230Jeff,

Is there a specific Eibach kit that you need to buy or is there only one kit for the C230?

Thanks C230Jeff,

Are there any resulting problems with negative camber? Or is the lowering subtle enough to avoid having to check alignment and stuff?

Alabaster White C230K Grey Int. and 2003 C32 pewter/charcoal gray
once you lower a car your alignment is altered , but for an inch lower it might not be as bad if you do 2 or 3...but i would still suggest to ahve it check for camber and alignment. Usually lowering with a spring is the best way to go not unless you have a lot of $$$ to spend....coilovers are good but how often are you going to adjust it? this is only good if your going to car shows and stuff. And if your really want to spend money on it , probably look for somebody who will install air bags suspension on it.

My opinion....

I, for one, figure that if I'm to dish out a bunch of $$$ to lower my car then the amount of drop should be noticable. And from what I've heard, the H&R Cup Kit would be my suspension component of choice. It'll give about a 2" drop up front and about 1.4" in the rear; .....correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still searching for an authorized dealer in my area that'll give me the best price for them.

You don't have to replace the shocks when you lower the car, but you will wear out the stock shocks faster because they're not designed to withstand the shorter springs and higher spring rates. Also, since they changed the shock/spring setup on the W203's (the older benz's had the springs and shocks separate from each other), you might as well change them at the same time.

Eibach's tend to be a softer ride than H&R's. Eibach also makes springs for AMG (and Carlsson from what I believe). Bilstein Sport shocks are a good combination with lowering springs.

The good thing about the H&R cup kit is that the springs and shocks are matched. However, i hear they lower the car quite a bit. H&R also makes a coilover set for the W203.

Yes, you should get the car aligned after you lower the car (though I didn't do that when I lowered the SLK, and everything was fine ). Make sure they correct the toe...i'm not sure if they can correct the camber w/o a camber kit though..but i'm not sure about that....And don't forget to rotate the tires (if you don't have staggered wheels).

I'm looking too....Progressive Auto Sports (1960 @Kuyk) was my latest visit on 08-22 - they work on a lot of MB there. I think they said $250 to install the Springs/Shocks.

I may stop by Awesome Transformations on 1960 as well
