03 C240 -- questions regarding headlamps
Hey guys,
Sorry to be a newb, I'm new to the forum and to mercedes in general... Right now I've got an 03 C240 w/ standard non-xenon headlights w/ the non-clear headlamps....
Currently I'm just looking to upgrade the headlamps to the clear ones... I was wondering if clear OEM headlamps off a 2005 (w203) C230 would work for my car...
Thanks much, any reply is appreciated
-Matt

A while ago (last year?), Mercedes was offering a clear headlight retrofit kit for the early model W203. I don't remember the details, but your might check with your MB parts department (W203's had several varieties of headlights during the model run). I think they were about $400 for the pair. They claimed plug and play installation, but you may have to remove the front bumper cover.

Yes, the halogen (non-xenon) clear lamps on the newer models will work (plug and play) to replace the older faceted headlight assemblies. I have '06 lights on my '01. I got them from a friend who upgraded to the BiX. Maybe someone else here has their clears sitting around after a similar upgrade and will cut you a deal.
The hardest part was dropping the front bumper to install them. Or I should say it wasn't hard, but tedius. The trick is not to remove the bumper completely, but to remove the fasteners on one side 2/3 of the way across the car, drop that side, install it's assembly, reinstall the fasteners, then do the other side. It keeps the bumper aligned. You can search these forums to find step-by step instructions.
You'll find lots of folks here who like the looks of the projectors (xenon or not) within the "Mr. Peanut" assemblies. I for one, do not like the look, and the clear halogens accentuate the shape of the design better, IMO. To each his own.
