Parts List for Service A/B

Hey all;

I searched the archives extensively yestarday for a list of the Parts Needed for Service A and Service B. I am at 111,XXX miles, and want to start doing my own servicing. (Saving for a header).

Does anybody have one? For the record my engine is an M111 on a C230 Coupe year 2002.

Thanks,

Ed

You ROCK dude. That was an AWESOME document. Where did you get it?

Any idea of what the parts cost? Now I need to look up how to reset the FSS indicator.

I found the recent post mentioning the oil filter tool to use. Any other special tools I'll need?

Is this oil filter the fleece filter that allows the use of a wider range of synthetic oil, or is it the paper one?

Any recommendation for where to buy the parts online?

One last note here. I, am going to be draining the oil from the BOTTOM using the drain plug. Let the flames come.

Holy smokes, I just checked out your car. We have the EXACT same rims. I have never seen anyone with the staggered AMGs like mine. Very cool.

E

Edit, nope yours are 18s. Very cool.

I found it a while ago on some other MB site. I saved it because it looked official and very handy

Roughly, I pay at my dealer (prices from memory):
$10.50 for the oil filter
$0.50 for the crush washer
$20.00 for the air filter
$15.00 for the cabin air filter
$5.50/quart for the oil (at an auto parts store)

The correct socket for the drain plug, the oil filter cap wrench, and the correct torx bit/driver to open up the air filter housing are all you need for these.

This is the correct fleece filter to use.

I just buy my parts from the dealer, so I don't know how much you could save and if the exact same parts are available.

I also remove the drain plug and drain old-fashioned-like. If you were using a vacuum to drain the oil, you wouldn't need the $0.50 washer for that bolt.

We have sweet rims I found mine on Ebay (purportedly from an 02 SL55 I think). They're not as fancy as many of the nice aftermarket MB rims, but I do love the look

Hi,

Does this also applies for M112 engine or 2002 C240?

quick question: My manual says that the oil capacity is 7.4 quarts including filter. I just changed my oil and filter, and I put in 7.4 quarts. My oil is just up to the full line on the dip stick.

Am I missing something with the 6 quarts here??? I would love to not have to buy another 2 quarts of mobil 1!

Also, I stupidly bought a FRAM filter. I change my oil every 3000 miles anyways, so hopefully it won't be an issue. I just bought a lot of OE filters so I won't get stuck when the dealer is out of stock again with a piece of garbage filter.

Finally, stupid noob question, what is the brass washer for that comes with the filter?

I have no idea. Your best bet is to call a dealer parts department, tell them your year/model/VIN/whathaveyou, and see what part number they call up.

If we have the same engine, it may just be that I am not letting mine drain enough, thought that does sound like a big difference. I usually have an extra bottle of oil around, so I may be putting in 6.5 or so quarts, but I don't think I ever got up to 7. I'll check my manual when I am in my car next. Still, these aren't so complicated, so if 7.4 quarts gets you to full, that has got to be the right amount, right?

I used an STP filter when I first got my car. I'm sure one filter isn't a big deal, especially with your fanatic change interval .

The crush washer is to replace the washer on your oil drain plug when you remove it. The act of torquing the oil drain plug/bolt deforms the washer a little bit which makes the seal. When you loosen the plug, you should put on a new washer before you tighten it again. That said, it's only purpose is to keep oil from leaking out, so as long as that's not happening, you are probably fine if you didn't replace it last time. But, for $0.50, I like the new shiny one

So the brass washer included with the filter is a crush washer for the drain plug??? I siphon my oil out, so I haven't had the pleasure of interacting with the belly pans or drain plug.

So easy

O.k. today after work I decided to do the Service B.

This was ridiculously easy. Man it took longer to drink a beer.

Here is what I paid for parts

(A,B) Oil: 6 qt. Mobil 1 0w40 6 X $6.00= $36.00
(A,B) Drain Plug Washer: MB Part 007603-014106 $ 1.21
(A,B) Oil Filter: MB Part 104-180-01-09-28 $13.91
(B only) Air Filter: MB Part 111-094-02-04 (went with K&N) $40.00
(B only) Cabin Air Filter: MB Part 203-830-01-18 $15.90

Grand Total $107.02

Time, took less than an hour

Was great to work on something other than my X1/9. How much does the stealer charge for this? Let me know if someone knows where to get cheaper parts.

My car said 8.5 quarts of oil. I just changed it yesterday and it read OK on the display.

No, the washer that's included with the filter is the washer that goes with the filter. MB's not that generous. It's pretty obvious, because you have to remove your old one to remove the filter.

Why people still can't get their minds wrapped around the much easier topside oil draining concept I'll never understand.

Thats an easy one for me to answer. I would rather pay a buck and a quarter for a washer, than pay $50+ for a draining pump.

Betters still, I'm getting underneath my car, and I can inspect the components. Different strokes for different folks.

Search the forum for Reset FSS.

You don't need a special tool.

I always got my parts from other places, never the dealer. Try these: Parts More Parts

E, NAPA is a good source for filters. They carry OEM oil and air filters for my C240. You have to order one day and pick them up the next.

If I never changed my oil from the bottom, I would have never caught my transmission socket leak or my rear differential leak.

Also, when are you 230 coupe guys going to photograph an oil change and air filter change so I can write up an install on my website???

My '02 coupe had the same transmission leak. It is pretty common on '02's from what I was told. I saw fluid in the belly pan on mine.

I changed my air filter a few times but never took pictures. All that you need is a T20 on the '02

Looking for official MB list of all Service B items

Hey everyone. I need to get my Service B done soon, and even though my car will be under warranty for a while, I really do not want to give $500 to my dealer for a glorified oil change. (Plus, my dealer is 50 miles away, and I won't get a loaner since I didn't buy from them.)

So, I want to get the service done at an independent shop. They will give me a formal quote on the service if I can e-mail them the MB list of everything that gets done in a Service B. Does anyone have a maintenance PDF or something like that? It would be a big help. Thanks.
