blew my front speaker

i noticed today that i blew my driver side speaker. kind of bumbed me out but i can get better speakers than the bose that came stock with the car.
i checked out crutchfield and it said that i can fit a 5 1/4" or 6 1/2".

which speaker do you guys recommend. the car has a bose 8" sub but dont mind of getting with my umph. another thing is that it has fiber optic cables. would i have to rewire them?

btw the car is a '02 c240

thanks in advance.

please do not get kicker. I'm currently running on kicker speakers and they suck!

I suggest Infinity, Polk, (pioneer sucks, xplode sucks).

I need to replace my kickers soon. let us know whats ur final decision.

btw, im not sure if you need to replace cables with the OEM HU. I think you need an adaptor.

I've been thinking about replacing my stock speakers with Polk Audio speakers. I've had them in my last car, and they were awesome.

BTW, does anyone know what materials the stock system is made of? Is it paper or rubber?

The Bose speakers are likely paper cones with polypropylene supports. Bose uses different impedence voice coils than most speaker manufacturers, so an outright swap may not properly load the existing amplifier. The fiber optics in your car carry the audio signals to the amplifier. The output of the amp uses copper wire to carry the current to the speakers.

Selection of replacement speakers is a matter of personal taste. You need to listen to a variety of speakers with an open mind, and pick what satisfies your ears.

Speakers are a bit like tires, they should be replaced in pairs, if not all at once. Exceptions would be if one failed when new, or was damaged in a crash.

Yeah, I plan to replace all 6 speakers. I have a 2006 C230 without the HK upgrade, so I figure it'll be nice to have a complete set of Polks.

I don't plan to swap out the speakers on my own......I have an MB shop I go to to get my mods installed. Is it difficult to install with the fiber optic setup? It's not plug n play?

excites your girlfriend
from what i understand the only part of the system that is fiber optic is from the head unit to the amplifier. i opened up the door panels and saw the speakers this weekend and they are regular paper speakers with normal wires. probably a direct swap, just cut the wires. i don't know about the load or impedance though.

Since we're on the subject of speakers i wanted to bring up a question. I blew my rear driver side speaker last week and i was planning on taking it to the dealership on friday to ask them whats really going on...this because..it doesnt seem to be blow but it seems to be torn and it sounds like a horrible rattle and distorted when the bass in a song hits...however today when i got off work i turned on the radio just to see if its still does it, and it seems to be working fine again...its the second time this has happened...anyone know whats going?

If your budget permits you should check out Focal component speakers...

I had them in my w202 and they sound as good as a car speaker can sound...
I really enjoy hi-quality sound at home and the focal speakers are the closest to that in a car...

Of course you have to know that any speaker can sound even better when fed by an external power amplifier instead of the headunit amp...

Don't do it! Your speakers are 2ohm. Therefore, you cannot hook up 4ohm speakers to your factory amp nor can you use an aftermarket amp on your factory speakers. The best thing to do is replace it all if you want better quality sound. I know for a fact 5.25 inch speakers will drop right into an '02 C240. 6.5 inch will fit with some modification. I use a/d/s brand and they sound fantastic! I have used them for over 12 years! I saw a pair just like mine sell on ebay for just over $100. I wish I would have gotten a bid in, I would take another pair in a heartbeat! That is a great deal as they sold for over $600 new and sound so good. Plenty of good deals can be found on ebay.

I just went shopping for speakers, and I was thinking of getting some new MB Quarts. Then I found out that they are currently made in Asia. Part of the MB Quart Prestige was their German orgion. So, now I think that I'm going to go with a completely different brand.

For the record, the best speaker in a car I ever had was the old Carbon Fiber Altec Lansing Set. Whoa, such good sound. But that was nearly 8 years ago. Problem with the Quarts is that they are so power hungry. If you don't have an amp, Quarts are not a good option. Pay attention to the sensitivity of the speaker.

The best budget speaker was the Polk Audio 6.5. coaxial. I just don't remember the model #.

I agree about listening to different speakers. Find what works for you.

BE SURE YOU LISTEN TO THEM OFF AXIS! Flatten out the controls on the source unit, turn off any subwoofer on the sound board and have fun.

I say get Infinity Kappa's; they're pretty cheap (I was able to get all four, or six, if you count the tweeters, for under $200) and their sound quality is quite good, even without a dedicated amp (I just wired it directly to the 4x50w in my HU).

What isnt made in Asia now ? IMO at least some parts if not the whole product of other brands shall also be Asia related ..
Unless u go for the pricy ones .

So, I did say that my speakers started working fine again after I noticed that the rear driver side speaker was torn/blown but today same deal again. Its a very weird rumbling noise that comes out of that speaker when a certain pitch of bass hits the speaker during a song; very weird. I'm not sure what i should do, i would rather not upgrade the speakers just yet, and im kinda lazy to look through warranties...but if i take it to the dealership would they replace that speaker under warranty if the problem replicated?
