Error Messages on HID

I bought the HID's for the lowbeams and the fogs from Carlab, had them professionally installed, and every once in a while i get a message saying there is a error with the light, 5 days ago it said the front fog left, today it said left and right low beam, it just comes and goes. and suggestion? I know its not a huge deal, but just dont want these stupid messages showing up! and even though it will display a message, the lights are still working!

I just installed my HID's from carlabs last week and havent had any error messages. I didnt get them professionally installed because I thought the instructions were pretty self explanatory. Maybe I just got lucky?

Question.. where/how did the professionals mount your lights? and did you end up drilling a hole in the water covers to lead the wires through? (i just left them off)

I have the carlab kit and I had to get the dealer to set the XENON=PRESENT option for them to work properly. Had them several months now and they work great. I was even thinking of putting them in my kid's SLK230.

i havent had any settings changed for my HID's and no error messages (just as carlabs promised). the dealership quoted the setting change to 'xenon present" for $95... so i'm hoping nothing pops up.

It's a luck thing, some people have to set it, some don't, no rhyme, no reason, just luck. Darwin did offer to send me another kit to try but I just had the dealer set it. Also, this didn't happen immediately, it was a few days or maybe a week later when it happened.

Best thing to do is get the dealer to reflash the ECU to XENON=PRESENT as stated above. You can also install a resistor kit from www.thexenonstore.com but the ECU flash is probably the more complete solution.

Buellwinkle, did your HIDs work also when you got the error message? Mine was working for a week, but now the passenger side is flickering non-stop. The strange thing is if the car is off, the lights wouldn't flicker at all. I found another post in this forum where a member had the same problem as me and all he had to do was bring it to a tech and get an upgrade of some software. Hoping that he gets back to me soon with the tech's info.

the same thing happens with mine.

I have carlab HID fogs. At first, it would say "right fog light" but the light was working. Then, the same error came up and the fog went out. I subsequently fixed/replaced (just the right side) them and they were fine for a couple weeks. Now, I get the error sometimes, but the light is still working. I have no clue what's going on.

The V2 Harness will get rid of the flickering, but there is a possibility that it might not get rid of the random error messages.

I had a HID kit that is a "no error" kit, but I would have occasional headlight errors. No matter what kit you have, you could have random headlight errors. The best thing to do is to go ahead and get the Xenon=present done. I did a lot of searching on the forum 2 months ago when I first got my kit, and the consensus on this forum is that sometimes there are unexplained errors.

this suggestion only applies to hid fog's:

someone on this forum told me, and it worked for me, that turning on the hid fog BEFORE starting the car. It works, no flicker, no error messages (well so far). I've had to turn off the engine at a traffic light, turn on the fogs, then restart the car. It's annoying i know, but less annoying than a flickering fogs (ala strobe) and error messages.

If you have the ECU flashed for XENON=PRESENT, could you still go back to halogen without having the ECU reflashed?

There is a step by step process in the sticky section. You can print them out and show them or try a few other dealers.

NExt time get your HID's from www.cqlight.ca

Best kit to date. I just installed mines about 2 hrs ago and no problems. I have them on my mustang, next month for a year and not one problem. They come with the anti-flickering/on board trip Capacitor (better than a resistor i've read). Took me 30 minutes tops with organizing the wires and no drilling ANYWHERE. No tools but my own human hands
