Angry aux input help

so i did everything correctly in that diy that was stickied here in the forum... did it all fine and it was a breeze, took only like 7mins... hooked up the ipod for a test run and got no sound in the aux input mode... is there anything im doing wrong here>? i tried a 2nd ipod for a 2nd opinion and still got nothing. i thought i might have to go in w/ the DAS tool to turn it on but i figured if i can switch to it via the headunit why would i need to "turn it on" w/ the lap top. any input would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

its frustrating

are you sure you connected to the right connector? On my 07, the connector was located near the middle of the front seat vs where the pillar was. And it was hidden in the bottom of some other wires.
if so, then it could be the wire harness or the extension that you are using.

I would check the following:

1. Does sound come out of the Ipod with headphones?
2. Is the 1/8" mini-plug cable working? Test continunity.
3. Is the mini-plug fully seated into the jack? First time might be harder.
4. Is the white connector housing (X39/36) latched on the harness in the door sill?
5. Does the HU (head unit) read "AUX IN ACTIVE?" Press CDC for 1 second.
6. After entering AUX IN did you turn up the volume control all the way?
7. Did you turn up the volume on the Ipod all the way? They all seem to need this.
8. Toggle the "MUTE" button.
9. This step is difficult, you must remove the HU to check that the connector on the rear is fully engaged and latched.

You must have a 203.0## / 2## / 7## 1# built after April 23, 2004.
It works with these head units:
523 Audio 20
525 Audio 50
527 COMAND
529 HIGH Class Japan
530 COMAND APS USA

It does not work with Code 990 AMG vehicles. Sorry fellas, you are going too fast to use an Ipod.

I'm getting my signal directly from the ipod nano connector vs the headphone jack. My ipod volume has no affect. But the sound level (volume) is fine (I think better).

You should probably use the headphone jack if the dock connector doesn't work. Also post what year and model car you have.

wait....
If you're using the aux in, you can only use the headphone jack.

The dock port only provides a LINE OUT.

The iPod interface is only way to use the dock port.

So which is it?

and you installed this by opening the front passenger door sill, looking for the cable connection in there, plugging in the aux cable adapter? possibly you plugged it into the wrong cable? although i think there is only one plug the aux cable will fit.

No additional fuse is needed in the car for the aux in cable to work. The wires from the white connector in the door sill go directly to the rear of the HU (Head Unit). The wiring is:

X39/36 White 4 pin connector

1 Brown Wire A2-11 Ground A2 is the connector on the rear of the HU
2 Black Wire A2-6 Audio signal (Left)
3 Yellow Wire A2-12 Audio signal (right)
4 Transparent A2-5 Ground (shield)

Important

Please look carefully at the white connector, it must have four wires, and match the colors shown above. This is connector X39/36.

There are no less than 6 similar connectors in the door sill area. Some are different colors, some will always be used, some will never be used (except by Sunman), and some might be used.

They are:

X18/36 Emergency call speaker (Teleaid)
X18/35 C0ckpit wiring harness + FSS {RBA} Connector
X35/2 Right Front Door Separation (Handy if you need to remove a door.)
X39/36 Aux in connector
X35/2 Right Front Door Separation (Yes, there are two of these)
X35/27 PTS connector, C0ckpit warning display (Parktronic)

I am trying to check if my aux port is active. On your message (line 5 in red), hold down the cdc button for 1 sec. But, as soon as I press the button, it goes to cd cnahger and does not tell me the aux port active screen. Am I doing something wrong? I have 2006 C230 with NAV.

Thanks

I am not a 100% but i think that on the nav headunit you have the option of selecting the AUX input..ie you don't have to hold down the CDC you should have a softkey choice for it..

I hope i'm right and this helps

The Comand has a soft key for AUX. There is no CDC button as on the Audio 20.

Press the "AUDIO" button. The next screen will allow a choice of soft key inputs, like radio, single disk, multiple disk, & on the right hand side AUX.

Press the soft key, and you are good to go.

i dont remember quite clearly since it has been a while since i did the install, but i think when i plugged in the AUX adapter to the factory cabling, it looked like it would fit 2 cables, so i think i chose the right side, and it worked. i might be confused...though.....

I have the exact same problem!!!

Glad to see that there is someone else out there with the same exact issue I have tried to resolve for the past 2 yrs!

I tried to tinker around a lot with the connector cable, went and bought an amp meter to make sure all cables work fine. But, no luck.

I have a 2005 C 320. The AUX INPUT shows active, but no sound whatsoever. I tried using various sources - Ipod, walkman (tape) and a CD player.. all had the same results.

I even tried giving it to the dealer (while under warranty) trying to get him to do it, but after spending 3 hrs he couldn't. When I showed him the DIY steps from the orig. AUX INPUT DIY thread, he said that his techies couldn't go by an instruction maunal from the web. I finally gave up.

I am anxious to know if you get it to work and how.

Thanks,
Neil

C230 ZW
aux in for iPod (actually iPhone) followup

Hi, MovieLA, I'm new to the forum, have had 05 C230 for about a month,, 1st MB.
I have been reading all I can re: this topic on both major MB forums, including all your posts, and also saved the now-famous post "Aux input for 2005 W203 W/ PICS!".
I found the A210 440 50 05 at my (fairly) local dealer today, and bought it - but being cautious, I continued to search online for more info before I tried to install.
And I came across this post from you, including:

You must have a 203.0## / 2## / 7## 1# built after April 23, 2004.
Uh oh.

My "Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI)" from the original dealer states:
"Production Date 3/18/05"

I assume that means my car is too old, and the unit will not work? I wonder if that's the problem with some of the others who can't get it to work...

On the + side, tho, I seem to have "Option 535 Audio 20 radio, CD player, USA" - What brand is this, and where can I find the specs? There are no audio specs listed in the otherwise outstanding manual.

It works with these head units:
523 Audio 20
525 Audio 50
527 COMAND
529 HIGH Class Japan
530 COMAND APS USA

I assume the "20" is the same as "523 Audio 20", which you indicate WILL work?

The rear speakers are 2 elongated tan-colored "C" shaped speakers (I have tan interior) without letters on top, as seen in another poster's Bose pics on this forum.
The bass at default settings is IMHO impressive. I do not believe my vehicle has the upgraded sound package, based on the option codes listed in the VMI. It does have the CD changer, and the CDC button on the left DOES cycle to AUX INPUT AVAIL.
I can't find that anything's AUX-related has already been installed.

Thanks for all your expertise, it is greatly appreciated!

Brian
