I don't have Bose.. so I didn't need to bypass anything and the installation was very easy. I got the system new for 950$

i've always used the buttons on the oem deck to change volume and switch songs anyway.. those are the only functions that i lost from the steering wheel so it's no biggie for me. i love this new deck

So about how long, start to finish did it take you to install this unit? Did you come across anything funky while putting it in that you had to make fit? It looks great and I've been looking around for a new head unit for my car.

I believe you can get a module to integrate the steering wheel controls. I'm going to try this with my install of the DNX7100. I've heard Soundgate and/or PAC may have add-on modules to maintain some control of basic functions from your steering wheel buttons.

I'll post pics and let you guys know.

NeoScotty - like any other audio mod. I spent more time on hiding wires than putting in the actual unit itself. The hardest part was making everything sit well behind the deck since there isn't much room to play with and making sure there's enough space for the rear fan to cool the unit off.

The dash kit will give you gaps, so you will need to play around with the top and bottom pieces to minimize the gaps.

AMGfan - let me know how it goes ~

K, I was just wondering, I like the idea of using a double din set up like that. I'm not much into the GPS part, but Kenwood has some great double din units.

which dash kit did you use? That looks really nice! Looking into something like this, but the Metra dash kit requires a lot of cutting to fit a double DIN...

Did you have to bypass your bose system if you had bose?

I got the "Scosche MZ2347B 2005 Up Mercedes C-Class Radio Dash Kit" from ebay.

I don't have bose or HK so it was a step easier for me. As for any OEM upgraded sound systems. You will need to bypass the amp. It's really not too bad, you just have to run a bunch of new speaker wires for the aftermarket HU. I haven't done it to a benz but I did it to my father's Toyota Tundra.

1. locate the amp
2. check to see if all of the speaker wires are feeding into the amp.
3. unplug the speaker wires adapter that goes into the amp and tap a set of new wires from the adapter and send it to your aftermarket HU.

that was pretty much it for the Tundra...

Question for sanf

Just finished my D3 install and the fm reception is zero. I got the euro adapter for the antenna and connected it to the antenna with the black connector, not the mustard color one. Did I do it properly?

Thanks,
Mike

that thing is useless. regardless of you attaching the 12v+ wire or not. what i did was wrapping a speaker wire all around that long metal thing and ran the speaker wire up to the passenger door upper panel so that I can get good FM reception. try it out.. and oh, don't bother with the 12v+ wire on the euro antenna

Thank you very much for your help.
Did you leave the speaker wire bare at the point of wrapping it around the metal part? If not, what did you connect it to behind the HU?

Thanks,
Mike

connect the euro antenna to your avic. strip the rubber out of the speaker wire(2 inches or so) so you have enough to wrap it around the long metal thing. then use black tape to finish up the job. just leave the two oem plugs, u dont have to use them

Thanks again.
I will try that, but probably not until this weekend since I just put everything back together last night. Did you connect your VSS wire and if so, where? I did not see a pink wire for that coming off of the factory harness.

Did you add the steering controls? It was a bit of a pain to find the part on the internet, but worth the searching and waiting. I finally found it from a guy in Portugal.

I don't have H/K.

I didn't need to attach any VSS because I installed the Kenwood DNX7100.

I just realized tonight that I did not have to install the VSS either. My speedometer shows up on the nav screen.

your upgrade look great!

alot of people is doing these upgrade but no one has done it in a car that has the BOSE or H/K system to let others who have this system know if we have to bypass or show a DIY on how to hook up or run wires....
