Amplifiers are used to amplify the line-level inputs that come from most audio devices to work with speakers and subwoofers. Most head units, such as the one you have, have built-in 200-watt amplifiers used for speakers, and line-level outputs if you want to use your own amplifier (for more kick) and line-level outputs for subwoofers, for which you will need a separate amplifier. To use the subwoofer that you already have (AFAIK the HK comes with a sub) will probably be too weak or not work at all, so I'd get a new one.
So, in summary, what you might need:
1. Nothing. You can use the built-in amp on the speakers and forgo attaching the subwoofer.
2. 1 Amp for the speakers only. The installer runs the line-level outputs to the amplifier, and from there to the speakers.
3. 2 Amps + a Subwoofer. 1 amp for the speakers, 1 amp for the sub, and the sub (plus a box to put it in) as well.
4. 1 amp + subwoofer. Use the amp built-in to the the head unit and have the installer run the subwoofer outputs on the HU to the amplifier, which is hooked up to the subwoofer.

Looks like a great job you have done there with the dremel..I'm trying to locate a facia for an 05 and may have to go down your route. Can you take some better daylight pics ?
I want to fit a Z2, do you think it would be the same size as yours ?
Cheers

I don't know the exact name of it because I bought it on ebay and it came without a part number. But there are a bunch of different brands floating around out there on ebay and other sites (if you do a google search) that are designed for the 05+ for a single din HU. Right below the single din is a storage pocket (for change, sunglasses etc.). If you are handy with a dremel you can easily make the single din and storage pocket into one double din space. It took me about an hour to Dremel it out to get a perfect fit, and it its is perfect!!
It looks like Scosche makes a kit for a double din application. The part number is mz2347b. The info is on their site and looks like it sells for less than $30. A place in Valencia, Ca. has them in stock. I did a web search for "Scosche mz2347b" and found it.

Kenwood DNX7100 installed
but not working... I am so mad right now. As you can see, it looks pretty good already. However, during the power testing, the display wouldn't power up and the screen would only go down 1/2 way. Any one with experience on nav unit like this? I am hoping this unit isn't defective since it's just so painful to exchange anything online. Thanks ~

My single din premier had the same issue when I first installed it. There is a reset button hidden on it that I pushed and it fixed the issue. I found out about it after I called the manufacturer and they told me to reset it. Might want to google the model # and see if there is a reset for it. Good luck

so..I shipped the unit back and a new one should be coming my way by next week. It has to go through some testing by the store..waiting sux. so with nothing to do, I threw on a sub from my w202. it took me a good 3 hours (2.5 hours to run and hide wires) to work on the w203 because of it's front battery and no folding rear seats. it's all good though, it came out pretty nice.

Looks nice, did you have Bose D2b in your car before?
I want to put one of those in my car except I heard many stories about aftermarket HU will not work with D2B systems. so.....
