What do you mean by straight pipe? cause the Mercedes Straight pipe is kinda different than the general honda or Mustang straight pipes.

Straight pipe replaced cat? replaced resonator? straight pipe all the way from after cat to the muffler canister? Any pics, thanks !

The noise in the cabin is somewhat low during low speeds, and very noticable during high speeds meaning 45+ here in nyc.

this somewhat sounds pretty tough, Straight pipe meaning replacing the resonator, and also the guy at the muffler shop cut off the pipe that connects the rear silencer to the resonator, and replaced it with a 2" stainless steel one.

the increase in "power" is very minimal, maybe 2-3hp with the k&n. I did a test and threw in the paper fold filter and the exhaust note is somewhat lower than one with the k&n. cant wait till i get a new rear silencer!

Eisenmann Exhaust is tooooo loud

I just installed my Eisenmann exhaust. I wast asked a choice and recieved the race version on a 2005 C230K. This thing is so loud i have to max out the stereo to not here the exhaust on the highway and it just drones. It sounds like a Honda civic with one of those potato shooter muffles. I know they have a geat reputation but they seem very unwilling to help me. For those that are running these are u really putting up with that much noise? It just seems like a rice rocket sound. I feel like I must have a defective one because I cant picture MB drivers liking this. They want me to pull the exhaust off so they can inspect it. I cannot do that for I wont be ale to drive the car. 850.00 is a lot of cash for just a muffler to begin with. Please give me some feed back.
Thanks

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Though I don't have the eisenmann muffler, I've heard some sound clips and they are loud...too loud for my taste. Thus, I went with Remus and is very happy with it. Post up some sound clips if you can. Maybe you did received a defective muffler or maybe not; maybe it's just exactly how an eisenmann muffler should sound? Good luck!

Yes, it's loud. That's why it's called the "race" version.

After about 500-1000 miles, it does get quieter. Of course, I've got a Supersprint header and Magnaflow cat, so I'm running a bit louder.

I'm not sure how you didn't know it was loud, though? I doubt they'd let you get a refund, and I don't know why they would.

Try ask a muffler shop to put a resonator on for you, cuz the stock sport exhaust on 05 sedan has straight pipe.

Clips

Car is not running right now so no sound clips. I will post when I get it running. When I bought this exhaust no one stated it would be this loud. I am embarresed to drive it. This exhaust if its correct sounds like something that should be on a 18 year olds car. Even my 15 year old nephew and the exhaust shop could not believe how loud it is. The reality of a sound clip is it really doesnt tell you to much. But it most go. I have a 18 foot donzi with a v8 and through hull exhaust so I like a good note like most but rice is not for my mercedes.

You should have done more research before you bought hte exhaust. The Essienmann website lists the sounds levels for all their mufflers including race and sport. There are also lots of sound clips out on the web.
Though the ones I heard do sound pretty good and not rice at all.

V6 and a 4 sound totally different, no comparison.

Good point, but would mine being a v6 not make it louder?

It's been my experience that a 6 produces a lower pitched grumble type sound where a 4 produces a very annoying, high pitched, piercing sound. The thing most often complained about a 6 is a droning noise but a 4 would produce like a waspy sound.

The OPs post about it sounding like a rice rocket is the result of an exhaust on a 4. Everyone swears theirs sounds different, but I have yet to hear one without the waspy sound. You hear it in the video clip as well...for a second or two it gets very high pitched.

Some people have asked what I mean by raspy sound...I've taken the video posted by c230 o5 and isolated the raspy part. In the .wav you will hear two rev's of the engine...it's the second one that I am talking about. High pitched, piercing sound.

http://www.erikcohen.com/mercedes/rev.wav

Now, mind you the car is not in motion so the rev limiter is on. You get this raspyness in the upper end of the powerband...4K and higher...you should really hear it near redline and shifting...something you can't hear on the video because it's not in motion. So essentially this the weakest part of it.

The sound on a 4 isn't for everyone...some love it, some (like me and OP) hate it.

It could be for sale

My problem is also the size of this muffler is huge. Is there no packing in this can? I am working with the distributor to try and see whats up. They sell alot of these and no one complains so.... I love a good note from the exhaust and would have no problem if it was quiet on the highway but its not. I think the resonator idea is an option. It amazes me after having an Audi how much more competent the aftermarket seems to be. The car has just 1500 miles on it. I have already installed coilovers a pulley kit and software so I do know whats going on and did the work myself. I should have done some more reserch but as I said I do not see a whole lot of good info in the mercedes forums.Again far lacking from the Audi forums. The only real answer i got here was the sedan does not come with a resonator. Thanks for that info! I think we should aim at being more helpfull instead of comments like *****! For those that responded with help and support I thanks you!

If im not mistaken, the c230s have a 4 cylinder engine and the c320s or 350s have the v6. Correct me if im wrong but i dont think you have a v6.
