I should have done some more reserch but as I said I do not see a whole lot of good info in the mercedes forums.Again far lacking from the Audi forums. The only real answer i got here was the sedan does not come with a resonator. Thanks for that info! I think we should aim at being more helpfull instead of comments like *****! For those that responded with help and support I thanks you!
I noticed that you don't have too many posts here which means you obviously didn't do much research at all. So instead of blaming the forum blame yourself.
There is tons of information on this forum all you have to do is use the Search feature, which I don't know why so many people avoid. We don't answer the same question over and over again when two days ago a thread already got like 50 replies on the same question.

2006 230's are new v6 engine. 2003-2005 have the supercharged i4 (m271). 2001-2003 coupes are supercharged i4 (2.3 liter engine = m111).

Umm...no. 2003 coupes have the m271.
And 2001 coupes were not in the US (just a side note).

shoot, just noticed it. My bad, that's right, Erik. Meant to say 2001-2002. 2001 didn't have the coupe in US? That's something I didn't know.

That's right about 2003 ccoupes.

Yeah, drex - there weren't. I don't know really why not, though, unless they were figuring out the perfect marketing plan to make sure they never sold.

Cutting

For a nice clean look the answer would be yes. The exhaust shop after firing up my car could not believe how loud it was so they dropped the muffler a little bit so as not to have to cut it. If you like it it would be cleaner cut. Let me know how loud yours is when you get it done. My car has been down three weeks now so I still have been unable to get the soundclips do to a Bad ECU reprogram

In the market
I have a C240 which is obviously not a performance oriented car. However, I installed a Remus system and aside from sounding awesome..it made a night and day difference in performace

Which Exhaust...

Which performance aftermarket exhaust system is the quiettest for an '04 C230? Brabus, Eisenmann, Remus, etc... I would like to buy one for my car but I would hate for it to sound ricey. Mine has an automatic transmission and I hate the way most aftremarket exhaust systems sound at the point of gear shifting (on automatics of course!!!).

Any suggestions? On the road sound clips?

Sometimes I wish there were meetings in the Orlando Area to exchange information of this sort but the guys here suck or are not enthusiastic enough!!! I think there has been multiple attempts for meetings without any luck!!!

Well, well!!! Maybe some day!!!

Thanks for your help!/Al

Why are you considering changing, if you don't like how most aftermarket exhausts sound? If you're just going for aesthetics, buy the chrome tip and call it a day.

To answer your question, the quietest one of all the "aftermarket mufflers" would probably be the AMG muffler.

If you don't want more exhaust noise, don't even think about getting a cat-back and/or full exhaust system.

Thanks for your reply Drex!!! Your car looks SWEET with those rims!!! ;y

I'm looking for a little more power and would like a soft sporty sound to go with the theme. I'm not looking for aesthetics. At one time, I considered buying just a tip but the idea of having a little more power hit me when I saw how pricey on those chrome tips are. I rather spend the money on the exhaust itself and get more for the buck!!! Do you think the AMG will give me what I'm looking for?

Thanks/Al

Thanks!

Ooh, if you're gonna be looking for more power, you're not gonna get much from an exhaust setup (even from the cat-back systems offered). The only companies that have full cat-back applications (from the research I've done) are Supersprint, Eisenmann, Brabus and Remus (since Brabus muffler is made by them).

No matter what, the stock exhaust piping for the 230K SS has been debated back and forth to be somewhere in the 2.3-2.75 inch measurements (I haven't seen anybody confirm the actual measurements), which is quite big for stock piping. That's why, if any gains are made at all from a replacement Cat-back system, it's maybe 1-2 hp at the most (if any at all). There's not much back pressure on the stock exhaust as it stands (remember, the stock exhaust muffler is made by Sebring).

So out of the choices I gave you above, if you're going for performance, Eisenmann has had the best reputation, but since you don't want the noise, try to find someone that can get you the Remus cat-back system. Make sure it's the full cat-back and not just the muffler.
