Thanks for the info. Weltmeister quads might be the most sensible choice for me then. I saw 'em on Frank W's car at the SD meet...looked really nice.

Weltmeister quads are very nice. Although, since you have a C32, you could always go the crazy route and do it like Weidermann did (C55 exhaust swap). Then you can get the Kleemann dual trapezoid exhaust.

At one point I was actually considering making a faux dual trapezoid setup, but it would be so much just to get it right. And I'd have to paint the muffler, so it wouldn't show behind the valance grille pieces.

How did your exhaust turn out, is the sound ok or to much? I'm still thinking what I want to do. I talked with Kleemann and they have just the tips if I want to use another muffler.

Check my sound clip in my signature. Keep in mind, that's when the headers were still on and the tune just got done.

It's perfect for what I wanted. Growls at acceleration and especially at WOT, subtle when cruising. Looks awesome IMO.

If you want to do just the tips, just remember that it's a single exit tip and now that I think about it, I think all of the OEM mufflers are dual exit tips.

Have you done a search on this.....I don't know how many threads are out there on this.

Try searching for 'resonator'

Secondly:

Make
Model

either way delete the resonator. it depends with the exhaust you put on for the diff types of sounds but either way your not gonna look at any 15HP gains prolly just better air flow and mostly sound

Deleting a resonator only increases sound, very limited hp gains if any.

Regarding the sound, it really depends on the quality of the muffler, you can see on youtube lots of video with remus w/resonators and w/o, the sound is much deeper and there's no sign of rasp or "rice".

just because its raspy doesnt mean its ricy. a mercedes wont sound like a honda. doesnt the exhaust just transmit the sounds the pistons inthe engine produce? wouldnt removal of the resonator allow me to hear better the sounds of the engine??? i think an engine sounds better where i can hear the rumbling and growling of it, not just a quite hum. i would never turn the music up just to listen to the engine

Here's an example, I use this a lot when customers ask for differences between resonator, no resonator, and no mufflers.

BMW 540 Remus with resonator : http://youtube.com/watch?v=LLvNwILkXqY
BMW 540 Remus without resonator : http://youtube.com/watch?v=XMrZnAL8JfI

BMW 540 Remus with race system : http://youtube.com/watch?v=fvJYpAacDxI

Now here's a great example too : http://youtube.com/watch?v=YAjR1gQyIF4

Compare the first Quad Remus with resonator and the last Quad Remus without resonator.

My best advice would be to use our muffler and use whatever straight pipes before the muffler, it will control the sound but it will still be aggressive.

You might have to go custom. Weltmeister is the only company I know that has the quad tip design, but it wont work on the I4 just the V6.

I think lorinser makes a dual exhaust, but you would also need the bumper.

i was in your shoes, i wanted exhaust but didnt want to spend too much money.... its still a mercedes man, even if it is the "cheapy" benzo, you know? lower production rates, limited markets, and extremely high quality materials equals higher prices. its tough to build a benzo and stay cheap, but if you knew someone, fineggled some aftermarket mufflers, etc....i bet it could be done for under a g note.

a G to spend on a exhaust is a good amount to start off. if your in no hurry why not wait a little bit and check the classified here and there you can def get something for cheap. you can get a remus for way under 1000
