At one point I was actually considering making a faux dual trapezoid setup, but it would be so much just to get it right. And I'd have to paint the muffler, so it wouldn't show behind the valance grille pieces.

It's perfect for what I wanted. Growls at acceleration and especially at WOT, subtle when cruising. Looks awesome IMO.
If you want to do just the tips, just remember that it's a single exit tip and now that I think about it, I think all of the OEM mufflers are dual exit tips.

Regarding the sound, it really depends on the quality of the muffler, you can see on youtube lots of video with remus w/resonators and w/o, the sound is much deeper and there's no sign of rasp or "rice".
BMW 540 Remus with resonator : http://youtube.com/watch?v=LLvNwILkXqY
BMW 540 Remus without resonator : http://youtube.com/watch?v=XMrZnAL8JfI
BMW 540 Remus with race system : http://youtube.com/watch?v=fvJYpAacDxI
Now here's a great example too : http://youtube.com/watch?v=YAjR1gQyIF4
Compare the first Quad Remus with resonator and the last Quad Remus without resonator.
My best advice would be to use our muffler and use whatever straight pipes before the muffler, it will control the sound but it will still be aggressive.

I think lorinser makes a dual exhaust, but you would also need the bumper.
