C230 SS Dyno

Anyone dyno'ed their C230 SS's with the M272 V6 yet? I've been reading other threads about dyno'ed Mercs, and it's puzzling how many of them showed loss in power instead of a gain, or worse, the dyno showed that the hp of the car was not even the hp as advertised.

Any replies will be appreciated. Thanks!

1. we already know the V6 isn't usually as strong as or much stronger than the S/C 4
2. you should expect a big difference in advertised hp and hp at the wheels because of drivetrain loss and especially more if it's an automatic

I'm making the assumption, hoping he knows what you just said prior to askign what he did. I think what he's trying to say is that some models haven't put out what is advertised (more/less HP). For example (I only know Mustangs/F-body cars so that's how I'm going to do my comparison), the 2003-2004 Cobra is listed at 390 crank HP, but really puts out about 360rwhp stock (with 18% drivetrain loss about 440 crank hp). So therefore, Ford underestimated the power. The Trans Am is rated 305 crank HP stock, but is about 275rwhp stock (about 330 crank hp). So therefore, those are underrated from factory.

Although on the other hand, I have heard what he was claiming about Mercedes. That many models (even some E55s) are advertised higher crank HP than they turn out. As for our V6 C classes, I've heard we're around 120-125rwhp, which would come out around 150hp at the crank. Anyway, personally it's not worth the dyno time to put my car on, but I'd be interested to see results.

Haha, you got it exactly. I'm interested in seeing the results, and it's purely out of curiosity. I assumed there are perhaps some people who have had performance upgrades done to their car, and I hoped they would've had a before and after dyno done, to see the differences in power.

I remember someone did a step-by-step from stock to a few mods on a C320, might have been on benzworld, but he worked with the dyno. Anyway, not sure about our C240 though.

Actually for my car atleast, I have the 6 speed so the gears are pretty short. You can row through the gears pretty quickly and not get terrible power, I mean compared to my V6 mustang a few years ago rated at 190hp, I think this car can beat it simply because of the gear ratio. I would never race of course because my car is, refined luxury.
