Duuuuuuude!
I have the same damn noise. Kinda sounds like a small bird chirpping, usually hear more over bumpy roads. Anyway, I haven't found the source yet. Let me know if you find something.

Hard to find center console rattle...from screw in battery compartment
Did you check my post in the rattle thread? Maybe same problem...
It also sounded like a "little bird". And we all have 06's...
Here it is for you:
------------------------------
I want to share this information in case someone else has the same problem.
I took me a VERY long time to find the cause of this rattle. I gave up several times before finally finding the cause:
The rattle sounded to come from behind center console/dash when you seat in driver's seat or from behind glove box when seating in passenger seat. It sounded like something very loose, making noise even at low speed, but not loud enough to locate it easily. You had to turn off radio and put fan below 3 to hear it...but very annoying once you notice it.
The problem was an loose screw: The battery rests on a sort of tray, and this tray is screwed to the frame between the battery compartment and behind the glove box. One of the screw was totally loose. I could turn it with my fingers. I re-tightened the screw and the rattle is gone!
Not sure if they didn't torque it right at the factory, or if vibrations + weight of battery caused it...
I hope that can help if you have unsolved rattles.

what the $#%&! i have the same problem and my dealership said they couldnt fix it because some valve was ticking behind the speedometer. I think i need to bring it back and complain. Also the seatbelt compartment rattles like crazy also at high speeds.

Can be inlet air blowing a damaged fan around. Does it go away if you turn the fan on?

I have exactly the same problem with my '07 C230. I haven't had the time to take it to the stealer (I mean dealer), but it is right at 5 KHz (I checked) and sounds like a cross between chirping & squeaking. It is intermittent, occurring mostly when the car is warm and on bumpy roads.
It is driving me nuts.
I did what checking I could without taking the instrument cluster out, and it is not the center dash speaker mounting or grille. Nor is it anything I can easily get to after removing the driver's side under dash panel or the side dashboard fuse box cover.
Nor does it have any relationship to HVAC fan speed.
I've thought about taking it in to the dealer, but as it is intermittent I fear that they won't hear it, and thus won't be able to fix it.

Very common for our machines. It is coming from the firewall in the engine compartment, even though it sounds as if it's coming from inside the dash. There is a wiring loom rubbing against something. Dealer fixed it for me under warranty so I have no details for you re specific location. Apparently the fix is to move a bundle of wires away from the place where they rub. May involve a zip tie to keep them from moving back to the same position. Your dealer will very likely know about it, mine told me it was a very common occurrence on the V6 W203.

there's a thread about it. but it takes like 30 seconds to fix. i can't really take a picture for you guys cause it's not htere anymore but like rusty said there is a wire harness clip that rubs against the firewall. just cut the part that dangles off and it'll fix the problem. yes it is that simple. good luck.
