Thanks,
that would mean (if my 2nd grade math is correct):

12 x 12 / 5 = 28.8

Still sounds a bit too high for side marker bulbs.
If I solder in inline resistors in the bulb sockets, what size resistors should I use ? What if the resistance is much lower than 28.8 (computed from the formula above), will placing larger resistors be the solution or do they need to be exact ? I don't want lesser resistors, correct ???

V(oltage) = I(current) * R(esistance)

W(att) = V(oltage) * I(current)

will be measuring the resistance on the bulbs themselves today with a Digital OHM-Meter I purchased at Radio Shack.
Next step is to purchase the correct inline resistors and have them soldered onto the bulb socket. Then seal off in shrink-wrap.

Thanks also to Mark Cummins for these directions, and brutal patience with my ignorance !!!

I'll get this project done one of these days. Shock, Shock !! Ouch !!

GL. Remember that a bulb also has an inductive component which might just skew your results.

Just use the formulas and the links. That should give you a range of resistance and make it easy to find some.

You are not going to get correct results because the resistance of a cold filament is a lot lower than that of a glowing filament. The right way would be to measure the current and the voltage drop, then derive the bulb's resistance. The inductive component, although negligible anyway, only comes into play during transients (on-off), otherwise it is zero (direct current => frequency f=0 => inductive reactance = 2*pi*f*L= 0).

that's the high beam light

there's the city light (the small one) that sits underneath that, and the corner lights also go on as 'parking' lights. which burnt out?

the light didn't burnout. I just wanted to replace the city light to a whiter one to match the big xenon projector. Is the above piaa part # the right one to replace the city light?

ahh, gotcha... not too sure on the parts no... the manual should tell you what bulb goes in there, though

Yeah, that's the right part. The bulb you're looking for is below your red circle though.

How do you remove parking light bulb?

I want to replace the parking light bulbs but I'm having difficulty removing them. Due to the surrounding area being very tight, I can't tell how the bulb is removed. Do you twist it out or just pull it straight out.

Please Help.

Your Recommendations for white City Light Replacements, Please

I replaced my city light bulbs (W5W) three years ago with Philips Blue Vision hyper whites, from England. I really liked the much brighter look (white, not blue, I would say twice is white as the OEM yellow bulbs).

Now, one bulb has failed and I assume the other is not far behind. Is there a newer W5W bulb, available in the US, that is at least as bright as the Philips Blue Vision? Need to know what brand, type and where to get them, please.

I replaced mine when they burned out with sylvannia silverstarz. Not sure if there as bright as the ones you used to have, but im content with them. I got them at pep boys.

I do not believe (at least through my observations at walmart) that SilverStars come in a W5W. They do make them in the H1, H7, H4, 9004 etc and are 55W. I have them on my C230 and like them. I have pictures if you would like. PIAA does make something similar in a W5W as Harris pointed out.
