Euro city lights are parking lights. US parking lights are not city lights. The side markers are neither.

This message is really mind boggling. At first, you may think he's talking about the side marker bulb which is a wedge bulb model 198 or 168 I believe, and then he goes about referring them to being below the high beams and light up upon locking.

The best answer? RTFM and draw your own conclusions from looking at the diagrams.

Or better yet, read Timmy's lighting FAQ. Search the forums.

Big Sheesh, I'm lost, too. Especially that part about "the bulbs below the high beam. the one that once we lock our car, the lights will come up" When I lock my car, the front/rear turn signals and turn repeaters in the mirrors "come up." The bulbs below the high beam don't light, nor do the side markers... or the light in the ash tray.

OK, being constructive, the amber side marker lamps are 194's, btw.

Maybe he is referring to the city lights...they are the only ones, besides the amber indicator lights, that light up when locking/unlocking the car. Tomz, if they are the ones they are a wedge bulb or a 194.

The city lights AND the corners both take the wedge type bulbs. I wasnt aware that the city like blink when you lock the car though. i will make a nice little picture that has arrow that point to each bulb and post it on the lighting page tonight.

Both the side marker and the city light bulb are wedge bulbs, so in either case, he can't go wrong.

They don't blink...they just come on for 10 seconds after locking then go out...I set it that way through the dash control (whatever its called). People are always shouting out at me as I walk away from the car that I have forgotten to turn my lights off!

All you have to do is pull. If you have a coupe, it should be easy. Mine were. On a sedan, it is harder. I did it once on a C240. The high beam kinda gets in the way of getting a grip on it. Try putting some pliers on it, but only use gentle pressure. Just enough to get a good grip and then pull straight out.

Where the wires plug in, you should see a plastic piece that holds the bulb. It is right below the high beam bulb. There are indentations on the top and bottom to grab onto and pull it out. The problem is, the top indentation is hard to get ahold of because the high beam is in the way. So what I did was use pliers on the sides instead of the top and bottom and just pull straight out. Just be careful. And I wouldn't pull the wires either. You would hate for them to pull out.

Finally, city lamp bulbs which match the Bi-Xenons colour temp.

The solution, mini-wedge 4 HyperBright/white LED bulbs (I bought them from formymercedes.com). I had to add something so as to not get the bulb-out warning on the driver info. centre, however it works perfectly!

I wrote something + posted more pictures in the thread below:

Yeah it's not on their site yet. I ordered it along with my rear wing a while ago, but they just got them in stock (white LEDs are a lot harder to get a hold of and more expensive) and I received them on Tuesday.

They are $10.95 each and worth every penny, IMHO, especially considering the fact that I don't ever have to touch them again as LED bulbs will practically last for the lifetime of the car.

My next task is to get rid of that ugly amber bulb in the Bi-Xenons (it's thowing the orange reflection everywhere) and exchange it for an LED bulb. I played around with it for an hour before giving up for now.

Aww, but then you will be complaining about how "yellow" the halogens will look. This is a frequent comment among M-class owners who did not want to spend the money on the Bi-Xenons (in the ML's case though, the halogens & Bi-Xenons are physically identical in appearance).

BTW, I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but added the chrome headlamp rings to fix the space between the fender/hood and the Bi-Xenons. It works quite well if I must say so myself!

Actually no, not a load equaliser per se as there isn't one that is available to simulate the current draw of a 5 watt W5W incandescent bulb. So, I simply used the bulb itself :p

that looks excellent. it doesn't have the thing i don't like about the little blue tinted bulbs - that i can see the blue reflected when the lights are off.

although i commend you on your work, i'm far too lazy for all that. :p

Drew....so u dont get a light-bulb out error w/o load equalizer? Also, I've had my A4 with clear projector OEM housing and with 4500k bulbs it is very smiliar/comparable to 1st generation Xenons (such as ones on Acura's) and still look great. I've seen cars w/o projector but w/ xenon and doesnt look that great. I really think clear jewel headlights with projectors are the key. just my 0.02

Thanks!

Regarding the blue-tint, that was what I didn't like as well, as it appeared rather boy-racer/ricer-ish to me See picture below.

Additionally, I discovered that the APC or similar blue tinted bulbs (though not the Phillips BlueVisions) tended to produce almost a greenish hue to them when on!
