Shaking at Start

When i let my foot off of the brake, the car starts to shake until i get up some speed (like 5 mph). It does this when im coming to a complete stop also. So any time i am below 5 mph it starts shaking very noticeably.

I think the tranny's shot but if anyone else has this problem please let me know.

most likely your engine mount collapsed.

Sounds like you have ignition problem. One of spark plugs or cables. Less likely but possible poor quality gas

i've got the same issue with my 01 c320. no fault codes. the mechanic said the engine mounts looked fine. they suggested replacing the spark plugs and wires first. other possible problems might be the MAF sensor or the AT transmission oil needs changing. i've heard another fix where they updated/flashed the computer software. i'm taking it back to the mechanic next week. let me know what they find out with yours!

MAF is the easiest cheapest thing to clean, just get CRC MAF sensor cleaner , remove it and clean it well (this should be part of maintenance every 40K miles or so). Many problems happen when the MAF wire gets dirty. Spark plugs and wires are not as likely, not on a C320 with 12 spark plugs, that would mean 2 plugs failed in the same cylinder although a hairline crack in the coilpack would cause early morning starting problems and rough idle. I would check fuel pressure (fuel pumps on those early W203's were problematic). Also check fuel injectors by disconnecting one at a time to see if the engine drops the same rpm for each. If one or two are not dropping by the same amount then they could be weak or clogged, another inexpensive solution, get a fuel injector cleaner kit, the kind that attaches to the fuel rail and you run the car on the contents of the can whilst the fuel pump fuse is pulled.

I had a similar problem (shook with the brake applied as well) and was fixed with a fuel injector cleaner. Gumout, $4.00, Schucks.

I bought a set of spark plugs (Bosch 4's) for $45. It's at 75k miles, so it's time to change them soon anyway.

is it a sort of shuttering where it lurches forward a moment and then slows or lurches back a fraction of a moment, then lurches forward again for a moment...?

No lurching. Just a hard idle or vibrations when the car is stopped---like if it were a manual transmission and you let off the clutch a little bit. Nothing violent or feel I should take it in, but it is noticable.

alright, when you say it happens when you let off the brake and until you reach about 5mph... are you depressing the gas during that time?

You seem to be driving a bit differently than I am because when stopped, I brake with the left foot and rev the engine up to about 1500rpm with my right foot and release the brake while flooring it when the light turns, so the trip from 0-5 is too fast to even notice.

So, in order to start troubleshooting this, we need to know how you're driving.

Plugs are supposedly 100k miles. To me that seems an awfully long time and I'd do it a little before then.

It all is in your service manual. M271 at 78.000 or 5 years.
