Very cool backdrop Keep trying, as that shot should turn out hot once you get it figured out. What DSLR do you have? I just got a Nikon D40 DSLR and I suck at using it, so I am practicing every chance I get.

That is a really great location Blake. I couldn't fix the overexposed one but the underexposed one could be fixed. If you want some pics edited, just send me the originals Blake.

johnand: I have a Canon Digital Rebel xti and am trying to learn all I can about using it to its full potential. It's definitely going to be a long process.
phattbam: Thanks man.
Shake: Thanks, I don't know jack about photo processing/editing, but hopefully that will also come with time.
mig888: I actually was using a tripod. I played with a ton of different settings, including flash on/off, high/low aperture, exposure and very little could actually help me to get crisp pics with proper lighting I was looking for. I'm going to need a hands on crash course bro. I'm not sure if I took you to this place when you were in town, but the architecture down this street is incredible... like the Beverly hills of Fresno. There are seriously some badass backdrops, but this one happened to be the most well light and only one not gated off last night. I kept expecting security to come rolling up, but they never did. Eventually I got frustrated with the poor results and took off.

Ok, so after last night's failure trying to take night shots of my car, I decided to go downtown today and scope out some good spots. Turns out, I was able to find some nice scenery that allowed me to continue testing out the capabilities of my new xti. Please keep in mind, I'm a complete n00b in the DSLR world and would love to hear constructive criticism. Enjoy!
I started off by a freeway overpass next to some train tracks, but the lighting was way too bright to get good shots, so I quickly moved to the shade...
After the overpass shots, I decided to follow the train tracks to try and find the train station since they can often have interesting architecture. Well, the station itself was inaccessible by car, but across the street there was an abandoned building that I thought would make a nice backrop. While I was setting up, a family pulled up in their mini van and asked me to take their picture, so I obliged...
Just down the street from the station, I saw a cool brick building with a loading dock that I figured might be a good place to stop and snap a few shots...
I've always wanted to take some shots of my car in an urban alley, and I was lucky enough to find a clean empty alley a few blocks over from the dock...
*FYI- The only editing done to these photos was cropping and resizing. Maybe I'll learn to process eventually. If anyone wants higher resolution pics, the whole set can be found at this link:

Thanks for the compliments, guys!
ctC230k: What camera do you have? Also, do you do any post processing? I'm still learning the manual settings on my xti and haven't even attempted processing yet. Gotta learn to take good pics before I consider trying to touch them up.
