Replacing spark plugs/Wires

Hi All,

My C320 coupe with 37000miles, and will be replacing sparkplugs/wires.

after some research, I have came up to DENSO IRIDIUM (16 i think it was) and magnacor wires.

my father brought up a question a few days ago, since the "gap" that the IK-16 gives is .42 (thats what it says on the website) do i have to adjust anything? or are the sparkplugs/wires plug and play??

also I dont recall reading anywhere about AFTER replacing the sparks/wires if anything has to be adjusted, or whats the deal.

btw, I was also wondering (for the ones that have replaced) how much were the spark plugs, and wires. I was thinking of ordering it at autozone, since I have a $25 gift card.

thanks in advan(ced)

i think the sparkplug wires are just plug and play
i doubt autozone will carry it, they don't have most german parts
but worth a try, since you have 25 gift card

Autozone might have them, spark plugs are a pretty common thing for auto parts store to carry.

The 6cyl will take 12 plugs. Some plugs are already pre-gapped and have no re-gapping required. The bosch plat 2s for my folk's ML430 did not require gapping. But double check on the plugs that you're buying.

thanks guys,

I checked the denso site, they are .042 gaps.

No ECU reset, no computer re-programing is required after changing the sparks/wires right?

is there any reason you are replacing them so soon? I was under the impression the spark plugs didn't need to be replaced until 90k.

I remember someone on this forum using Magnacor wiring and having a problem. Check the resistance on the old and new wires if you're determined to change. More hp from different sparkplugs is but if you don't mind taking a chance that different plugs can only equal the stock ones at best and damage your engine at worst go ahead if it makes you feel better.

be sure to tighten the plugs to spec, also, use a square box wrench, 17mm I think, to get the boots out. Use the manifold as a pivot point to get your power to pull them out.. Mine were a SOB but they came out... I spent about 5hr installing my plugs, so pick out a day and do it then. Also, tighten them back up to 27nm, wait 30 sec, then tighten to 28nm. Also, since its aluminum your tightening into, drive it for about 10k miles and then recheck your torque specs on the plugs to see if they have moved from heat/cold action. If you are north this effect will happen faster than 10k, so maybe check them in a week and then wait the 10k... I hope this helps!
