Repair DVD question
We are considering buying the service manual DVD. We are currently trying to replace the cps on our 05 C230 Kompressor coupe and were wondering if their is detailed instructions on this repair to gain access and tricks to replacing the cps as there is only an inch or so of clearance? Is this repair done easier from the bottom of the vehicle? Thanks again everyone!!!

DVD Manual update
I got the manual in the new format (see my previous post to get caught up in this continuing story) that is vanilla Windows XP. It came on two DVDs and installed directly on my system. There were some complicated instructions to set it up, but it wasn't too bad. In the end, I'm not sure how much better this version was than the previous one. It will not accept the VINs of either of my cars. The information (not the menus, etc.) seem to be in German, and I am unable to get any Help from it. The folks on the other end of this transaction (ebay name: victvator) have been very responsive so they may be able to set me straight on what I did wrong (if anything).
I have to admit that in spite of how supportive (and obviously honest) they are, I'm getting a bit weary of this whole thing and I'm about ready to get the official MB disks. The price is really inexpensive ( ~ $17) so I'll hang in with them for a bit longer.

DVD Manual update
Well, I think we both gave up. They refunded my money and I'm looking for another solution. Maybe I'll get the official MB DVD.
I would not hesitate to buy something else from victvator but I don't advise getting the DVD manuals from them.

I'm in the market for W203 service DVD's too, was told by 800-FOR-MERCEDES that the p/n reference on page 1 of this thread can only be purchased 'by employees'; I did stumble on this:
http://www.mercedesmanuals.com/2001_...p270020306.htm
which seems to fit the bill but it's about double the cost that was listed on thread page 1. seems worth it though.

I thought I would update everybody on my efforts to get a cheap copy of the DVD manuals. I found another guy on ebay, globalzulia, who has the listing, "Mercedes Benz Smart EWA 09 EPC & WIS Worskshop & Parts". I got it as a "Buy Now" purchase and it took a long time for me to get it. Part of the problem is that I didn't read the fine print that said:
"Estimated delivery within 21-30 business days." The other problem is that the shipper wasn't very good. I finally got my disks but there was no documentation on how to install it. I wrote him back and he said I had to send him my email address so he could send the instructions to me (we had emailed back and forth several times and never told me that. I wonder when he was going to tell me?). I got the instructions and started the installation. I now have to sent him my MAC address so he can send me the license keys. The package came from Venezuela, which was a surprise.
His responses to my questions were not always prompt, but I don't believe he is dishonest.
I haven't gotten my license keys yet so I can't tell you anything about the software - It seems to be standard MB shop software. My advise would be to pay a little more and get the DVDs from MB. The difference in price is not worth the hassle I've been through.
On the other hand, if you want to support a small businessman in a country hostile to free enterprise, I think that is a worthy endeavor. I really do wish him luck because he'll need it in Venezuela!

2005 C230K Sport Sedan, 6 speed manual
This message is with all due respect to everyone on this forum.
I keep reading posts about people trying to find alternatives to the official factory service manual. While these efforts may be noble, I do not understand them. The official Mercedes Benz Service Manual DVD is relatively cheap, and easily available through MB. It is comprehensive and complete. And it is as close to the final authority as you can get.
Incidentally, the part number in my original post (a few years ago) has been superseded. But this should not be a problem for anyone at Mercedes to find the correct and current DVD.

STAR is the program used to "talk" to your Benz via the interface connection & the WIS is the service/parts manual. I have neither yet so I am not betting anything on my answer. Just my assumptions.

The STAR Service Manual DVD is the one that is available direct from MB available to anyone for $60. It contains almost all the information needed to work on your W203.
WIS (Workshop Information Systems), is the official MB Repair library. It is "officially" available to dealers and independent repair facilities that buy and license the software. WIS is usually installed together with EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) on a database type program called EWA.net. DAS is the software used along with the appropriate cables and multiplexer to read and write data to all the cars control modules.
The big difference between the STAR Service DVD and WIS, is the STAR DVD is very user friendly, WIS is not. $60 for the MB STAR DVD is worth every penny!

Maintenance Repair Manual 2005 C240
Hi all,
I'm new to the world of Mercedes, just bought a 2005 C240 4Matic. She's a beauty with 120K miles and seems like has been maintained very well. Sorry if this has been covered in a previous post but where can I find maintenance manual for DIY'er. I also own an 1986 Alfa Spider Veloce and bought a DVD online that has been a valuable resource. Thanks everyone i know these forums are invaluable!

C240 Service Manuals
I am intrigued by the C-240 service manual chat. I have WIS, which works sometimes, and the later, official Mercedes STAR DVD. Both are OK but nothing like the old, 6 volume set for our 1986 300E. That one is extremely detailed in service and diagnostics. Saved my buttsky many times!
The CD-ROM manual for the 1995 E320 appears to be a scanned copy of the 300E printed version and is OK but far less convenient to use.
The C240 manuals leave out a lot of stuff. I now have a trunk lock problem. No mention I can find in any manual of the trunk lid, door, latch, anything. The owner's manual taught me how to open the trunk with the key and thank goodness for that. This forum has been some help with the electric lock. I'm not out of the woods yet.

I would be grateful to know if a Star Service DVD which includes the W204 220CDI is available to an Australian? & how I could go about obtaining it.
Thank you,
John.

Samatitrey,
To my knowledge Mercedes Aust do not sell DVD's on servicing their vehicles. If they did it certainly would not be for $60.They keep their servicing information very close to their chests..
I have relatives in the states so they could do the purchasing then send the DVDs on to me.
I would like to know the web site where I can purchase the CDs & would like to make sure they contain the W 204 220CDI servicing because as you are aware ,they are not sold in the USA.
Thank you for your help.

Well in the us we just call 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES and give them the pn and they ship it to you. You would have to find someone with the w204 disc to find out what it has on it but i know my w203 07 version only has the c230-c55 range no c200k or cars sold outside the usa. so good luck finding them you could email Mercedes direct in Germany and see what they say.

Thanks Samaritrey for the info . Sounds as if I am barking up the wrong tree !!
You are very lucky to have the $60 Star service CD arrangement in the USA.

I'm ready and willing to buy the service DVD, but honestly I only want it for a heated seats retrofit on my W203 (which I know has been discussed many times in other threads; everyone seems to agree that the DVD helps alot) so I'm only interested in that portion of the DVD. I would gladly pay someone who has this manual to simply record and give me that portion/episode. Any takers?
*Also, according to this site that sells the manual, it's not compatible with Windows 7. Now that every new computer these days comes equipped with 7, what does MB expect us to do? All I've got is Windows 7 on my 3 different computers.
