Can't.... Loosen.... Power Steering Pulley Nutt!
I can't get loose my power steering pulley nutt to install the evosport underdrive pulley kit on my 2001 c240. Is this a left or right hand threaded nutt? I'm using a 14mm socket, is that the right size or is it 13.5? I didn't think they make 13.5 but 13 wont fit and 14 keeps slipping. I had to move over the hose that is infront of the pulley. This is the last step to installing the kit, however I just can't get over this hill..
I've put out a SOS on here before and someone helped... I'm praying it will happen again, I really want this kit installed!~

The bolt is 0.548" across. That is 13.9192 mm. My 14 mm Craftsman socket was 0.5515" which is 14 mm. However, it felt like it had more play than a normal socket and head should. Not sure what to make of it. It may be pressfit and that would be even more odd.
The nut or bolt (couldn't tell) had a hollow core head and that was a bit unexpected. I don't have the DVD manual yet but maybe someone here can look it up. I will be ordering the manual by the end of the week or after the New Year.

your measurements explain why I kept stripping 14mm sockets. The head of the bolt is still fine, thanks for checking into this for me. I'm anxiously waiting the results of how to remove this thing.
If it is press fit, how do you re install it? Dry ice? LOL

Are you sure you don't have a split in your socket? Sometimes it's hard to see, but the socket will "open up" and slip. If all is OK with your socket, I'd have to advise you to go to Sears and buy the Metrinch sockets. I have a set for times when nuts and bolts are just too rounded off to use with a regular socket. The Metrinch grips the bolt by the face, not the edges, so a 14 mm Metrinch socket should work.

i dont have any splits, thanks for the input. I will go try those sockets you suggest, maybe that will get it off... Anyone install pullies with problems like this?
If you had it installed, what was the price of installation? How many hours did it take?
Thanks all

I do have a dewalt battery powered 300 ft-lb nut breaker but that is beside the point.
Give those sockets a try and email sunman on this board. He will know!

thank you very much for doing the install, when you reinstall the bolt the pulley is attached to that I was having problems removing, do you just press it back in or what? Is there any keyways or anything? Can you post some pics of the re-installation results?
Also, how does the pulley kit feel on your car?
Thanks!

Does the pulley pin come out or stay in? Does the pulley itself come out? Is the pressure from walls of the inner pulley, that apply the "press fit" pressure onto the pin? Therefore the tool will pull off the pulley, and also put it back on?
I haven't started the install because I don't understand the process completely. Please help

alright I can do that.. But I have to know first how the pulley goes on / off.. I have a good idea, but I'm waiting on waveykat to reply the details
that would be swell if i can contribute to your DIY website... I think that is a great idea and it is very helpful, thank you for creating it.

yeah really i got the same tool as above, and i got it to the point of turning the nut on the extractor tool to pull off the power steering pulley.. But it wouldn't turn any further, and I tried as hard as I could. I even used a cheater bar. I would estimate that I applied somewhere around 150lbs of pressure and it didn't give.. These cars are made amazingly strong, how much torq should I apply?
