Service A

Dealer wants $320 for service A. My car has about 33,000 miles. It sounds like all they do is an oil change and CHECK fluids, which i'm sure i can do myself. Anyone ever do the service on their own and just have the computer reset? Am i missing something else that is included in this service that i should be having done?????
Thanks

Look into the owners manual and do whatever is says has to be done.
$320 is way too much for A, my stealership charged $200

OR tell the dealer to just do an oil change,
and contact you to authorize any additional charges.

That way if they find anything under warranty, you get it free.
Yeh, you can do it yourself, but I got a lot of stuff for free from the dealer.

My wife has 134,000 miles on her '02 C240. I have done the oil changes since, well, a long time ago. Very easy and I will have the oil change document up on my site by the end of the week if all goes right. I just got my lift working and I am ready to try it out!

Just be careful when getting under the car. I use Rhino ramps from Auto Zone to drive up on when draining the oil.

You can reset the computer yourself. Very easy to do. It is the manual.

the manual says to clear it you just push the reset button (the same button you use to clear the tripometer) but this won't reset it will it, so i know when the next service is needed????

The proper way to reset the service timer for a 2005 c230

1. have the key in the on position (not ac position)
2. get to the "A/B Service due in xxxxx miles" display
3. hold reset button for @3-4 seconds
4. the screen will ask "confirm reset press reset button for 3 seconds"
5. next message will say A/B Service due in 13000 miles

This should get it done properly. If you are fairly handy and have the manual that states all the things that are done at A/B srevice I recommend that you go ahead and do it yourself.

Yes. It will. You can also reset it to show the next proper Service, A or B depending on what is next.

In the "Operation" section under "Flexible service system" you will find how to properly reset the service counter. No big deal. It is page 140 in my 2002 C240 manual.

I have done this many times.

Any big issues with the car? When did you change the timing belt?

My uncle has 178k on his 2000 C230k. Car runs perfect.

As far as I know, MB does not use timing belts but chains (non-interference engine). Chains last longer than belts, check the manual. It might say something about the chain replacement.

They are less likey to break than belts and can go for longer intervals. Perhaps its with the newer motors but my old 94 c220, the dealer never said anything about chaning the timing chain...sold her at 160k miles and was still running perfect....minus 1st gear being gone =P

Check in your manual or dealer for the recommended change interval.

Window motors and electronic stuff (remote's crapping out, sun roof not working) mainly. The biggest problem was the fuel level sensor going out but I replaced it.

The last 40,000 miles have been the best ever. We plan to keep the car for 5 more years at the least.

You can see some of the installs I have done on my website. www.installuniversity.com

I have not changed my timing chain. geeez. I have totally forgot about that. I wonder how big a pain that is. I can't wait to get my hands on that DVD manual. I am ordering that manual tomorrow.

FYI, I have posted the incomplete version of the oil change. I still have to proof read it and take a few more photo's but it gets the point across for now.
