My wife crashed her C 320 2002.
Bumper, hood, headlights destroyed, radiator too.
Motor ok
Her airbag deployed .
My insurance will cover $10,000, the rest above that amount I need to pay.
By the way this is in Costa Rica, I paid for this C 320 with 30,000 miles year 2002 , $32,000 cars pay 50% taxes here.

Body shop will charge $2,000
Spares $2,000
Airbag they say they need to raplace both, even only one deployed, or else the computer will give an error, and they got a quote from the Mercedes Importer for $10,000.
Now the bodywork shop said they could buy a salvaged C series mercedes and replace the whole dash complete with bot airbags for much less.

Any ideas where can I get a cheaper airbag replacement /solution?

Geez, I thought Canada was bad with PST/GST of 15%! Used cars from a private sale is only 7% though.....

For $10,000 it better do more than just style your hair. I'm thinking specific types of favors......

which airbag, if just the driver side, then just buy the new steering wheel with airbag online, it'll cost you a lot less
but i don't know about the passenger side

Can you post pics of the damage??? Is the rad support repairable or does it need replacing? The panel shop doing the repairs, have they quoted for new parts all round or second hand parts, if so will the quote stay under $10k if second hand used? Why do both airbags need replacing? I dont understand why driver side went off but not passenger side as the front airbag sensor is behind the rad support so both should have gone off (MB may have a different set up so I will look into it). But either way I dont understand why you need to replace non deployed airbags, why not do the side ones too? The seatbelts may need doing and they are steep in price too. Go to another repairer, or better still, tell the repairer to repair up to $10k, i.e. airbags, radiator, condensors etc, then make a second claim to the insurance company, tell them you smashed again. This time when they have another $10k insurance money to spend they can repair the cosmetics, rad support, bonnet, gaurds, grille, headlights bar reo etc.

we have several NEW 203 airbags in stock...if the pass side airbag did not deploy - it does NOT!!!! need to be replaced...

Your wife;s seatbelt DOES have to be replaced (and possibly other seatbelts as well depending on wether seats were occupied)...the SRS control mpdule does NOT need to be replaced either (it lasts 2 or 3 accidents)...

don't have them sell you BS

I think I answered my own question when I said seatbelts would need replacing......seat belt sensors detect If a passenger in the front, hence only the driver bag went off....thats my bad
