I just bought c200 komp 2001 (85,000 km not miles), but it seems that the engine is very noisy in area around the manifold exhaust contact to the engine block (nearby the supercharger area). I have checked with local manifold specialist they said that "it sounds like manifold leaking but we can not spot the leakage". Are any of you experiencing the same problem ? Cheers

Is generally Merc C200 Kompressor is much noisier that normal aspirated 4 pot Merc. Coz mine is so noisy, it sounds like a leaking manifold. Thanks for your help

I noticed you wrote kays not miles, where abouts are you from?
Did you buy your car from a dealer, If so, as you have just bought it, statutory waranty should covor if something is wrong.
The only Merc i've driven that the engine wasn't noisy in was a W210 E430. For some reason they all make a bit of noise IMHO, I've just learnt to it

Those noise are normal for M111K engine. the belt is also loud. Thats why in M271 they remake manifold and move the kompressor away from the manifold. I doubt that you have manifold leakage. If you do believe me you will notice it.

G day mate. I live in Auckland, NZ. Yes, I bough from a dealer. BTW, I will have Mercedes authorized dealer to have a look, and see what it will come up. Other than that the car is in good condition.

Sorry I don't have the picture. But, it is all standard, colour obsidiant black, leather seat, elegance trim with memory seat. Other than noise, I am quite happy so far. It stands out of the others, and it is reasonably cheaper than accross the Tasman. I just came back from holiday in Queensland. They are selling for AUD 35,000 for my car.

I just came back from the mercedes shop, they inspected it and they said my manifold is leaking and needs a new one. Cost about NZD 2000 including labour. Much cheaper to weld isn't it. I came back to the dealer that I bought the car, he said he will rectify it.

Fixed .......finally by the dealer free of charge of course. Found a small gap opening in the manifold seam. Very hard to see, even Midas muffler could not spot it. But it took them 1 week to spot it. Now it is welded, and now runs way way smoother.....

Everytime I watch motorway NZ I see alot of jap imorts? Over here its really the old 300zx's and Skylines but I think they have to be 10 yrs old to be complied. Why is NZ so big on imports?

I believe in singapore they cannot keep a car more than a certain period of time so they export them around the world. I'm not sure what the deal is in Japan. All I know is that if you import a car direct from the end user or from auctions you can save alot of money compared to buying from a car dealer over here who do the same thing only add a few grand. I don't know what the deal is with taxes and other costs in regard to importing cars to Australia. You cannot import a car more than 10 years old into New Zealand aswell.

I think its the other way here in that they have to be older than 10 yrs. I have heard its to keep local delivered cars resale values higher, I will google it to confirm.

Some useless info
The following is a guide for importing vehicles as the Australian government only allows vehicles to be imported if it falls under one of the following categories.
PERSONAL IMPORT
If you currently live overseas and have had a vehicle registered in your own name for a continuous period of more than the last 12 months, then you are eligible to import your vehicle to Australia when you return to Australia, or become an Australian Citizen.

15 YEAR OLD VEHICLE
If a vehicles manufacture date is more than 15 years ago, then that vehicle can be imported to Australia without limitation, or restriction.

MOTOR-SPORT
Motor vehicles can be imported for Motor-sport competition. The vehicle can never be registered for non-motor-sport purposes.

WRECKING
Vehicles may be imported for wrecking purposes. It is a condition that the vehicle arrives with the body in more than one piece and can never be registered for road use.

LOW VOLUME COMPLIANCE
Vehicle importation is conditional to it being complied to Australian Design Rules (ADR) immediately it arrives in Australia by a Compliance Plate Holder (CPA). To become a CPA a company must provide evidence to the Federal Office of Road Safety (FORS) that the vehicle meets each ADR. Where the vehicle does not comply with an ADR, the CPA Holder must show how they intend to overcome it, with the use of engineers plans for modifications, or alternative parts etc. This process can take up to 2 years to complete, and only then can that CPA holder comply up to only 25 vehicles per year.

The vehicle must also meet certain criteria at the time of the CPA Application, such as:-

it must not be available in Australia from the manufacturer,
the vehicle must be considerably different to that offered by the manufacturer,
if it is a passanger vehicle, it must not have 4 doors if newer than 1995

LOL true, but on the other hand it does keep the resale values up nice and high-even on the jap imort cars. R34 GTR still around the $55,000+ mark.

When the engine is cold then start the car and put your hand towards the back of the exhaust manifold near the welded seam that runs the length on the manifold. You should be able to feel it leaking. I've changed heaps of exhaust manifolds for that fault on a c200 (engine 111955 seems to be the most likely to do it for some reason)

You're RIGHT mate. I wish you got back to me 2 weeks ago. Are you a mechanic at Merc. COz, even Midas and other muffler specialist could not spot it where the leak was. At, Midas, my cas was on the hoist for about 45 minute with engine running and 4 people searching. In the end they said : " you have to take it to Merc shop but we are sure there are leaks"

Then, I took to the Merc shop they quoted me $2000 for the brand new manifold. Then I took back to the dealer that I bought the car from, it took him 10 days to finally spot it......

hi there i have merc c200 it has cold starting problem when starting cold takes longer to start does any has come up with this problem please help tried about 10 gerage no body seem to know the problem

My c200k sounds a bit like a dragster, due to either a hole in exhaust or manifold. Found a complete new exhaust with muffler for less than 100, but was thinking of getting a weld. But the exhaust has age related rust so probably time for a new install. Petrol does appear to drink quicker since the dragster noise!
