How many digits are Audio Security Codes

I didn't see anything official with the manuals (i.e. a metal card with the code that I got with my wife's Acura), however there is a 6 digit (5 #'s and a letter) code handwritten on the service record pamphlet. Is this it?

Also, I was searching and found a post on the W202 thread that stated that you had to hit the (SC) button after entering the code... is that the same for the stock cassette radios on W203?

Thanks. I haven't disconnected the battery yet, but I'd rather know now before I need to drive 500 miles in silence someday!

No code entering needed in W/CL 203. You can disconnect your battery without fear. Proven by experience: even swapping the stock head unit with an Audio 10 didn't require any codes.

Just don't apply power to the radio without it being totally connected to the canbus or it will lock up on ya. BTW, it says PROD across the front when you do that. My radio had to go back to Germany to get unlocked and that took 2 months.

Thanks guys.

So if there is no code to enter, why are there stickers on the rear windows with a picture that appears to be a generic head unit that says..."ALARM CODE"

Strange?

whitecar2003,
The radio code on the W202 has only 5 digits. It's very simple to reenter the code. BTW, This is for a 1999 W202 radio. After the battery is reconnected, power up the radio. The radio will show 5 blank spaces. Enter the 5 digit radio code and hit enter. You're done. The radio will still remember your stations, preferences, etc. No need to reprogram. If you do need the code for some reason and you don't have the radio code card, just call up your dealer and ask them.

there is a 5 digit code for the stock HU on the W203. you can get it from your service advisor, or have them pull a VMI for you, and it should have the radio code on there, assuming they fixed the problem that they had earlier this year.

No code

Why is this thread continuing? The question was answered in the first reply. There is NO CODE necessary for the W203. Mercedes is apparently getting away from the whole radio code thing. There are very few models left that still require a radio code. Only those that still have the older style head units. SLK, CLK Cab, ML are the only ones left that need codes.

Completely true. No codes necessary for W203. Not at all. Only thing to keep in mind (as session said) not turn it on before everything is hooked up. I'm gonna try to find the Audio 10 fact sheet and I'll post it here. It's clearly stated there.
