I think it's a great feature... so why doesn't MB activate it here in the states? I know not ALL of them can be activated..but why not put in all the same software to make it work? To me it would increase the safety/value of the car IMO.

This makes me wonder how much it would be to replace the ESP module, I'm all about safety! I have a feeling it would be fairly expensive.

I too can vouch for it. It happened 6 days after I got some new Michelin Pilot PS2’s on my car. When the warning first went off I pulled over and checked visually . They all looked fine so I reset and continued on my way. After driving probably 1 more mile the warning came on again, this time I pulled over and checked the pressure with my pressure gauge that I have. Sure enough the right front tire was 4psi low (36psi, I run 40psi all around). I busted out the little cigarette lighter compressor and got it back to 40psi. I went back to the tire shop and had them dunk the wheel to see where it was leaking. It ended up being the seal on my 3-piece wheel (got damaged getting the cheap *** Falken tires off). Drove down to I-forged and got it resealed (great customer service ); now everything is great!
THANK YOU Active Tire Pressure Monitor

Almost everything is "restricted" in the USA.

Actually it depends on the build date, the front SAM, etc. The later build date and what else has been fixed under warranty, the better. But its still a trial and error.

will this work for an 06? Do u need a certain option that had to be installed in the car? This would have saved me a new tire a week ago.

The SAM has no bearing on it. It is a matter of the cluster, the EIS and the ESP module.
All of them must be late 2003 or after.

I can vouch for the passive tire pressure monitor as well! I had Steve add the option during his last trip a couple weeks ago and am sure glad. I was driving with my wife to do some xmas shopping the other day and the warning appeared in my cluster, so I stopped at the nearest gas station to check my tire pressure. Sure enough, the rear driver side tire was at 20 PSI and I could see a nail in the tread. I filled the tire and took a short drive to the nearest tire shop to have it patched. It saved me from causing significant damage to the tire and/or wheel, and most importantly my wife didn't have to get her hands dirty changing the tire on the side of the road.

With 30 profile this would be nice. I try to check my tires every weekend. Its amazing how much life you can get out of your tires with proper air pressure. And if you can save a tire before it shreads would be nice to. I lost a tire a short time ago, but it shreaded before I could get over. A few seconds heads up could have made a difference.

Exactly. Even with my 35 series tires in the rear, I couldn't tell which one was low just by looking.

Just pay attention to your mileage and gas gauge.
