How to rewire pre '05 taillights to light up like the '05

How to rewire the taillights so that they light up like the '05s? The tails of the pre '05 W203s only light up 3/4 of the way while the '05 light up all the way.
Anyone knows how to do it?

After doing the upgrade myself I decided that it was better to use the factory wiring harness that goes with the lamps.

Even then the bottom red runnings lights were not both lit. What needed to happen was that there was some coding that only Steve or Sunman can do that will illuminate both of the bottom red running lamps on the rear.

Overall I am satisfied with the results.

Do you know how to remove the taillights? Any instructions?

Take off the screws and it falls out. Perhaps remove the whole trunk interior first.

Diagnostic coding is not DIY. Parts are easily ordered from MBENZNL and you have to ask for the cable cable harness and ties.

I tried doing this today and got it to work. The only problem I had was that the Left license plate light would flash. At first I thought that it was the bulb, but I undid the connection for the tails and it stopped flashing. Anyone know what the problem is?

It is not wired properly and the car is more intelligent than people give it credit for.

I thought that I wired it properly. All I did was tap into the power from the bottom running light. It worked fine.

I just dont know why that would cause the left license plate light bulb to flash. And why would only the left one flash and not the right?

You doubled the current and the resistance. Then the rear SAM goes postal thinking there is some kind of serious problem and starts to flash another lamp to check if it is broken.

The way the rear SAM checks the lamp is to flash them and records the difference in current and resistance. Finding a cheap way to hack the car does not mean you did it properly.

Doing it properly means you used all the correct Mercedes parts.
