Engine ticking.....

Has any of you experienced this???

I just got an oil change and the engine started ticking after a few hundred miles. I drove it for a little bit more and the sound went away....

Worried,

John

Normally ticking occurs from either low octane gas, poor oil circulation-oil pump issues, or sludge build up, but most are self adjusting valves, in your case not sure why it took a few hundred miles, I would advise checking your old oil if possible for any flakes in direct sunlight, that would indicate some sort of premature wear, if the oil looks good and the tick has went away I think your ok.

The noise you are hearing is most likely the air pulse valva that sounds like a bad knocking / ticking noise. It is also possible that you are hearing the injectors "snapping". Ticking does not occur using low octane gas, that would be pre-ignition and that would only happen if the engine was under load with the wrong gas. An oil pump also would not cause a ticking noise, you most likely wouldnt even hear the oil pump. Checking your oil also wont diagnose anything unless you had a complete failure. Anyway most likely you are hearing the air pulse valve ticking.

Is there any way to get rid of the noise caused by that?

NOV---- you must be joking dude..........or you must not be a mechanic............low octane does not cause valve tapping? I've been a mechanic most of my life.........and yes IT CAN CAUSE KNOCKING/TAPPING, and NO I DID NOT SAY THE OIL PUMP can cause TICKING itself.............if the pump is clogged or not operating 100% or not operating at all it doenst pump the oil properly which then causes valve tap..............please know what your talking about before trying to I guess be intelligent.

Hmmm, okay, not sure who to listen to... but I think since WaveyKat had the problem and replaced something and it stopped, I'll take that advice.

Dude, holla at me I'm not trying to get that done at Mercedes-Manhattan.
