So I'm thinking about a Mercedes C class 4Matic...I went to the dealer and test drive a 06 c280 4matic with 20k miles. I get in to drive and the "check engine light" is on! the salesman tells me its now problem and its safe to drive. Thats instance number one...a week later my mother is also looking at a C but a new one. So we test drive a C350 4matic. Get in that car and the "anti-lock brake" light is on. Salesman says its okay to drive too, probably just spun out on some ice and it stayed on for some reason!!!!!!

Is this normal of These mercedes C class cars...I just saw the Consumer Reports Issue. Is this a true example of why this Manufacturer is getting this rating...two different dealers, two different cars, and two different lights!

uhh, well I test drove a C280 RWD 2007, and it also had the check engine light on, which I really didn't care aobut I guess... I just drove it, the ride was good and then the purchase was made.

No problems with mine right now... No engine light no ABS light no whatever light except for the low-beam light

It is also pretty funny that there are no "miles" in the C280 Canadian version... only km... is that the same with the US ones?

Interesting that they would put you in a car with the light on even if something was wrong. Well, if it drove fine then it isn't an issue because sounds like both are under warranty. I love my car, I love Mercedes, but you honestly could never make me own one out of warranty. I say go for it, make sure that the car is fully serviced and you will be alright.

As for newton22, why don't you go find a Toyota forum and talk about your ES430. Your S class looks like it was great, my dad had a 2000 S 500 and it ran great until about 48,000 miles. He traded it in right before the warranty came up.

Mercedes is one of the most elite cars on the road, even the C class looks above the rest. Yes you have to pay for it, yes there are some issues, but Ferraris all have much worse and more expensive problems...yet anyone would take one of those in a heartbeat...

Test drove a 2003 c240k Coupe. Salesman was great and let me take the car to lunch (turn off traction control ) Anyways I was playing with the dash instruments and it said 1 malfunction.

Went back to the stealership and I asked for a OBD scanner. I could scan the code myself.. Lame excuess. Then was told that I could take the car down to Midas and they would scan it for free . Hello I am the customer not your freakin mechanic. Then I was told they would knock off 200.00 And that was after they told me they needed to sell the car.

My guess is that they have had the car on the lot for about 30 days and about 700 miles of test drives or saleman taking the car to lunch. So that the battery had not had a chance to properly re-charge and the malfunction was a simple low voltage. But I ain't going to buy a car with a Known malfunction and UNKNOWN severity of that problem.

I don't have a Lexus or Toyota, nor do I like those cars.

before my family buy the C230 coupe, it was a display inside the shop, we have the salesman drive the car out, it was tight with lot of turn, he end up scratch the front lip bumper... $1000 off MSRP and respray for bumper
