Tax Time

Well i got back a decent tax return which will allow me to do one of two things i want to do. Put a Command system in my car, or pay down the principle on my car. The amount i have is 3k. My question is....what would most of you do?

Also, how or who could install the Command. I would plan on getting it from Steve of course, but have no desire to even try to install it. I have an XM receiver on the radio i have now spliced in somehow. I didnt install the thing but the commander receiver is in the ashtray.

BTW...im currently in San Antonio, Texas

Cheers!

sprintbooster first, comand is useless (unless you value visual aesthetics above $), buy a garmin gps instead

I say put in a portion (at least over 50%) towards the principal and then use whatever is left to get your other smaller mods (cf lip for example).

I say skip the Command, put half down on the car and the other half use for the Bi-Xenon's you have listed for future mods.

It's really up to you. How many months would putting the money to your principal loan drop? I'm assuming somewhere around 6-8 months of payments?

That being said, how long do you plan on keeping the car? If not long, put it towards the principal. If you plan on keeping it long term and have no problem with affording your monthly payments, get comand and whatever other add-ons you want.

When doing mods it's great to do mods that are considered "options", rather than mods that are consider "accessories". The former (options) actually raise the value of the car, the latter (accessories) does nothing - as you often see people who've injected $5K of mods into their car, but the dealership doesn't care or give them value. Bi-Xenon and Comand actually fall in the "options" category, which means if your car has them, the value increases (go to KBB.com or anywhere else and you'll get to tick it as equipment on your car), and you'll see how much the value increases (try it with and without).

To make it make financial sense the increase that the option will give your car has to be greater or close to the amount the item you'll buy cost, this way you get a mod that literally makes financial sense.

All in all, I don't think the mods (Bi-Xenon and Navigation) will increase the car to the money you'll spend at Steve's, but if you were to find a good, good deal on the Comand on eBay or on the forum, I'd go for it. Otherwise, you're better off paying the principal of the car down further; essentially the money you'll save will come back to adding a Comand down the line. It's kind of like a deferment, so do you want the Comand now or later?

Agree. Faster you pay if off. Easier paying for mods will be.

yeah....after all these posts i really appreciate your opinions. Im thinking ill just put the money towards the principle. I could really use command for the travel that i do with my job, but...it would be nice to get the payments over with. 4 more years...haha..its like a presidential term.
