needing new tires after 18,000 miles?

I purchased a brand new 2005 C230 and after 18,000 miles I've noticed that all four tires are bald. I'm PRETTY sure tires are supposed to last longer than 18,000 miles, especially this car hasn't been driven hard at all. Is this an issue I can take up with mercedes? or am i SOL? BTW, the car is entirely stock.

May need an alignment. Or they were really crappy tires.

Yeah, check for uneven wear. If none, then you got stuck with crappy tires (probably Continental).

18k isn't really that bad. Proving anything on a wear item would be next to impossible.

is this issue not covered by mercedes warranty? if i'm not mistaken, BMW covers uneven worn tires and replaces them.

I find it a little strange that all four tires at 18k need a replacement. Since the car is a RWD, the front should last a lot longer unless it's lowered. But 18k miles isn't so bad, i wouldn't be complaining.

Mercedes won't do anything. The tires that comes equipped does not guaranteed any mileage. They only replace any defected tires i.e. blown tires.

OEM tires on my 05 were Pilot Sports, the front still had about 20% left when I replaced it at 50k miles, and rears were bald at 30K. I drive moderately aggressive, I would suggest you get alignment check too. 18K thread life is below average in my opinion. I mean 23K~25K miles should be about right.

You can not rotate tires on the sport sedans, the fronts and rears are different sizes and you can't rotate side to side because the tires are directional. Just get better longer life tires next time. I got Riken Raptors, they've been great and are very cheap, a little over $420 out the door for all four.

I got the same problem you do...my tires from the factory balded a lot...well not exactly balded but you can really tell they wore down really quickly compared to any other tires on my friends' cars...I have the Michelin's that came wit hthe car from the factory...can't name the size and model off the top of my head but all 4 wear evenly just that they wear quickly...
In fact...tonight I was taking my girlfriend to this nifty spot...and there's a couple of tight turns (180 degree turns, hairpins, etc) and when I was at 10 MPH hitting this one hairpin my tires spun out....I barely noticed (which is pretty cool because that tells me the ESP does its job i guess) but thing is...10 MPH...and it looks like a turn I could have taken 25 MPH in my SUV...so I guess I am due for changing tires

UK cars came with Continental Sport Contact 2..They did last me about 25K but were very noisy..Now I have the Michelin Pilot Sport 2's and they are simply remarkable..Low noise and fantastic grip..and the treads look nice..Just hoping the michelins last..Fronts are 225 while rears are 255..
All depends also on style of driving..and type of roads..
