amp/sub install pics... hopefully this helps
power wire to battery...
behind tube (too lazy to remove and show more)
into the side panel with an inline fuse
run along panels and under rear seat
to the amp
high-low converter
wired from the bose sub... which i took out and wired
remote wire from fuse #7... used a wire spade and bent it with pliers to fit the fuse hole and ran under trunk flooring
trunk space it occupies
simple install once you know where to put things... keep the converter low (if you use one)...

If the amp has speaker level inputs do you need a converter (using the bose sub wires)? If not, what's the advantage of using one?
What do you mean by "keep the converter low"?

the advantage of using a converter - i believe it allows you to draw wattage and get a signal from an existing speaker and amp... it allows you to adjust the amount of output and wattage you draw
keeping the converter low means to draw very little power from the existing speaker or amp.... the converter has little dials that allow you to tweak its output...... you put small screwdriver in its 2 dials and adjust the left and right output.... if you keep it low enough, the new sub will not put out too much bass and the volume of your entire system will not rise and lower dramatically on its own.... i believe that when the setting are high, the stock amp has excessive power drawn from it causing the whole system to change volumes...
you can try the built-in converter (if your amp has one)... my amp did, but i couldn't find the adapter to try it... i am not sure if the amp might draw too much power from the stock system though...
another advantage is that it provides rca cable connections...

Did you run the red power wire through the big grommet in the firewall?
Where did you connect it: directly to the battery, the jump-start post, or the terminal block near the jump-start post?

This is looking from the floor up under the dash with that black plastic panel removed. The black stuff at the bottom of the pic is the insulation that sits on top of the black panel.
I can't remember if you can see it from the outside without removing the battery.

stereo install
I recently installed some after maket subs in my new c coupe. It was a very easy task mostly cause i am a MB technician, but also the fact that benz builds a quality vehical helps alot too. the first thing with extra grommet openings in the firewall is awsome, just pull out the hard plastic plugs with a needle nose pliers and feed the wire threw. I used 8 gage wire but 4 would also fit and actully be better tighter fit than smaller wire. the sill trim comes up easy and benz provides you with a nice plastic compartment to run the wire threw. Once you get back to the rear side panel it gets a little harder, i had to look up the procedure on WIS so i didnt bust up the panel. another good was that the factory amp is behind there and thats where i tapped into the rear speaker outputs to get my rca signal for my big amp. from that point its all a piece of cake in the trunk. but if anyone has more Qs i'll be happy to answer them

230KBenz, I bought the Bose amp from a sedan owner. You wrote
Just how do I safely remove the rear side panel? I know I have to replave all the stock speakers with the Bose ones, and probably can't use the sedan rear center speaker.
Sure could use some photos of this for the Coupe.
Thanks
