orange fiber optic speaker out problems..

so i have a 02 c240... came from the factory with teleaid and no CD changer....

when i purchased the car i had the dealer install a cd changer.....

so basically the when the car was new 2 orange fiber optic wires (ill call them #1 and #2) were plugged into the back of the HU.

when i had the dealer install the cd changer.... the 2 orange fiber optic wires (#1 and #2) were divided with one staying with the head unit (#1) and the other (#2) plugging into the cd changer.... and an addition orange FO wire (which i will call #3) was added to run between the HU and the CD changer.....

have i confused anyone yet?

so anyways i just recently purchased an mbenzl euro nav from another member on this board....

i basically unplugged the original HU and plugged in the Nav.... i also had to get some orange FO extensions from the trunk area so i could connect the NAV and the CD CHanger together because the existing FO wires (#3) was way too short...

so with everything hooked up as just discribed i get audio out (sometimes) but communication between my cd changer and nav (all the time)... in other words my nav always recognizes that a changer is present...

the sometimes sound part is... sometimes audio does not work.... like a 50/50 toss up when i start my car....

so what i have done now... until my gps antenna comes from oemparts... is unconnect my cd changer.. and just have the FO wires #1 and #2 plugged into the NAV... and i am not having any problems with audio what so ever... (yet)

any suggestions as what i should do....... i guess try another FO wire...... as well as another black FO connector... but if that fails anyone have any other ideas...

also... i did not recieve a wiring harness..... and as currently plugged in everything appears to be working fine.... with the exeption of the gps antenna... (Nav is diving me wrong directions)

ill post pictures of everything later this evening.... to hopefully clarify some things...

why did you have to get fiber optic extensions when you got the euro nav? All you had to do was replace the radio with comand and you should be done with it. What did you have to extend and why?

...

fiber optic wire (#3) would not reach the cd changer from the nav... it was too short.

so short that if i have it plugged into the back of the nav... it would not reach the back of the cd changer..... so i put in an extension...

ill go take pictures now...

cable reached the HU and the changer without a problem....... im guessing either the dealer cut it too short when they installed my changer... it it came short from the factory....

another questions for you... so i changed me "location" on the my nav.. and it appears to be working fine for GPS.....

do i really need the GPS antenna?

thanks

of course you need a GPS antenna for the nav or it can't obtain satellite guidance info.
