What's happening and how to I fix it ?????

Okay I took my car in yesterday to get an oil change and what not, then after getting my car back, I was driving and the damn vdo says that the oil level is too high and I need to remove some of the oil.

Is this something I should take back and have done, or will it be okay, im sure the Stealership would not have done that on purpose ? But what do you guys think ? Should I take it back to be drained some, or will it be okay ? Has this happen to anyone before ?

Thanks in advance.

Just take it back... The dealership sucks the oil through the dipstick. It will only take a few minutes.

If you don't have a topsider, definitely take it back to get it properly drained. Having too much oil is a very bad thing, and you should not drive it at all in that condition.

Though I'd just check the level myself, if I were you, first, to make sure it's accurate.

In all seriousness, I wasn't kidding about it. Not good at all to drive it like that. Much like Rosie O'Donnell's pants, having too much internal pressure is a recipie for disaster.

Had this happen to me too less than 1k miles after 30k oil change. Funny thing it happened in just about the same spot. After driving @ 60-80 mph for about 25 mi and the in stop & go traffic I got the warning. It happened 2 Saturdays in a row,but I had checked the oil rite after it happened both times and it read OK. I checked oil first thing in the morning too day after it happened and it again read OK. Shutting car off & restarting it cleared error and it hasnt happened again (knock on wood)

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I just had my oil change. I warning came on when I pulled into a steep driveway. I called the shop and asked about it. They said come buy so we can "reset" it. That sounds more like "drain some oil out when your not looking".

Yeah i checked my oil level this morning before warming the car - read fine, after about 30 minutes of driving it popped on. Im just going to have them do it again.

The whole oil change doesn't need to be redone, they just need to adjust the level. When you drive your car, keep the revs as low as possible.

My understanding is the following.

High oil levels mean that it is possible for the spinning crank to touch the oil. This would froth the oil. The froth builds and gets worse. When the froth is sucked into your oil pump, you are no longer pumping oil to the oil passages, but a froth that has little lubrication properties.

I don't know the clearance of the crank to the oil level, but I doubt this will happen. Just drive your car back, and have them adjust the level. Get a coupon for a free oil change.
