greetingz,
When I improved my brakes I was told it was a waist of money and that it didn't make a difference anyway. As long as you have enough to lock them up you didn't need bigger brakes. LOL, I didn't even bother arguing. I've spent time on the track and back roads with the Porsche and I know what I need to feel confident and in controll. I have had the c32 brakes fade a little coming off of the pass at speed. but was not a big issue. I had some space to work with. But on the track it could be a different story. I'm going for the advanced driver coarse soon so I can go to more track events. And I might take the Mercedes to work on driving skills with it. So this might be something I have to do. I'm glad someone gets it, and the car looks great.

after having driven 3000km through germany during the last 5 days I am extremely impressed with the brake improvement - the car finally slows down bigtime and without complaining about fading issues due to some heat.

I should have done this a long time ago...no more worries about being cut off when doing 200+ kmh speeds.

Couldn't agree more. Canada is the slowest, period. The Brits complain about the traffic cams and speed traps- Even downtown London is faster than most of Canada.

Fastest places in the states? Chicago tollways on weekends...never ever a cop, and everyone running ~100mph.

AMG Rear Brakes

Here's the parts list I got, however, I was told that the REAR CLK55 AMG brake set up would work on 17" rear wheels. Steve is this true ???

Rear Caliper AMG - left 003-420-29-83
Rear Caliper AMG - right 003-420-30-83
Rotor (x2) - 171-423-02-12
Protective Plate - left 171-423-01-20
Protective Plate - right 171-423-02-20
plus a few miscellaneous screws, thrust pin, dust caps, bleeder valves, & pins.

the rear are only 13", so it should work on the 17" rims you have.

you will also need the metal dustcover plate behind the brakes listed below;
unless you want to cut them yourself, as Steve suggested above.
Protective Plate - left 171-423-01-20
Protective Plate - right 171-423-02-20

Robert,
how much cutting do you have to do to the heat shield ?
You are referring to the heat shields for the exhaust muffler, correct ?
Do you have any pics of that ?

I'm talking about the shield behind the rear rotor.

you have to cut off enough to clear the caliper, but I just cut the whole thing off because for some reason, my rotors were touching the shield.

You're cutting a section (almost a 1/4 of the shield sometimes) that's completely vertical. The rotors touching the shield? Just bend them back until they don't.
