C32 brakes horror finally over?

after having ruined 2 sets of C32 front brake rotors and 3 sets of C32 front brake pads (in approx 40.000km - 25.000 miles) I "finally" moved up a step.

I honestly do not understand how these C32 brakes ended up on the C32, C30CDI, C55 and early CLK55s as those suck like crazy!!!
Usually when cruising the german higway at 200-230kmh (125-140mph) the C32 brakes allowed me to slow down to 90-100kmh (60mph) three or four times in a row before they would not slow down the car at all anymore - what a POS brakes.

So, all (front and rear) C32 brakes have been removed in order to make place for a set of SLK55 [030] front & rear brakes (same as on the CLK63). The front [030] brakes are slightly larger in diameter then the non [030] SLK 55 front brakes (same as on the later CLK55).

Now I just need to find a set of 18incg wintertires for next year's winter...

6 piston front calipers with 360mm multipiece rotors

4 piston rear calipers with 330mm rotors

yes - straight bolt-on...only modification that is required is that all steel dustcovers behind the discs have to be trimmed (I bought 4 original dustcovers just to discover that those were the same BUT with some corners CUT-OFF which made cutting off my own existing dustcovers just as easy).

pricing of a set of new SLK55 [030]/CLK63 front & rear brakes:4650USD excl. shipping
pricing of a set of new SLK55/CLK55 front & rear brakes: 4400USD excl. shipping

greetingz,

should've bought that complete set on ebay for $1200

why so expensive? Brembo GT BBK is way less.

my bad, i thought it was $4650 for the fronts and $4400 for the rears

doesnt seem too bad, since i can dump the full set of C32 brakes for another $1000, but its still $3600K

They would look nice in red

dam those do look nice, i'm looking into getting CLK63 brakes and the cheapest i can fit it is $7000 for the whole set which is a little too much for me. so i have been trying to save up but its going to be tough to cough out 7000g's

I am pretty sure I can send them lots cheaper then for 2350USD...meaning that you might want to notice that I offer these brakes for 4650USD excl. shipping

greetingz,
Steve,

Looks amazing. What is the ballpark on shipping and how difficult is it to modify the dustcovers?

I have the rears but stayed with the C32 fronts because of the snow tire issue. Now Tire Rack has some nice snow tires in 18's finally. I might upgrade the fronts now. Maybe its how your wheel is sitting but are the rears drilled and slotted like the fronts? Mine have the slots on the rear rotors.

looks awesome Steve.

problem with the C32/55 brakes is that the rotor's heavy and the pads suck which will glaze the rotor after few heavy stopping. I think changing the pads help.

The C32 brakes are still highly superior to the stock single piston
POS brakes that came with my coupe.

I don't get to drive that fast in the US anyway, or if I do, it's a quick run, and back to "normal" ie slow, 65 Mph. It takes a lot for me to get any fade, but I am running the Akebono ceramic, which can fade after a while.
Still most of the time it's not a problem in the US.
Anything more can cost your license, and they impound your car at like over 100.
Yeh, Europe, it might be different.
Certainly Portfields might fix that.
Of course the C32 brakes come with one rotor that turns the wrong frickin' direction. Dummass maneuver by MBZ.

BTW, thats one HOT smokin' wagon.

yup, in the states you really can't go that fast anyway. for majority of people the C32/55 setup is still perfect unless you do track or mountains.

did you read what I wrote up here?

the brakes that I installed are the SLK55 [030] brakes which are the same as the CLK63 brakes (and that will cost 4650USD excl. shipping)...the ones you think that I installed but didn't install are the regular SLK55 brakes which are the same as the CLK55 brakes and those cost 4400USD excl. shipping...so the brakes that I did install ARE the ones you want to have as well and you got quoted 7000USD for...

You think states is slow? Canada is SO SLOW!!! especially Vancouver...

Getting from my house to the university of BC takes an hour in the morning, 30 minutes of that = idle time.

Highest speed during ride = 65 mph (around then +5/-5 depending on traffic/cops/rush)
Average Speed = 30 mph

So no, I don't even see a point buying a C55 here in BC... there are traffic lights every block, stops you every two minutes, and you wait for two minutes until it changes, you slam the gas, and stop in front of the next light for another 2 minutes. So no, we dont usually slam the gas up here.

(NOTE - if you are stopped at 1 light, you will stop at all the subsequent lights)

So no AMG brakes needed for us here

Steve, I'm glad you finally got rid of those C32 brakes. Can you tell me the part # for the rear rotors from the SLK55 030 kit? I need rear rotors so I can install my rear 4pot Alcon/Brabus calipers. The rear alcon calipers use 330mm x 21mm rotors.

the slk 55 and slk55(030) use the same rear brakes. The fronts are different. The part no. of the rear rotor is 171-423-02-12

That looks awesome Steve! What kind of tires do you use in the winter, all-season or something more suited to snow and ice?
