Aftermarket HID Conversion Kits & required setting XENON=PRESENT thread
sO I was tlaking to my girlfriend about these...and she asked me a VERY good question...."how long do these last?"....anybody?
These thread seem to go on forever but usually die out in a week or two. The group buys usually fizzles out when 20 people want it but only 2 actually buy. Many claim that the bulbs last for 5,000 hours. At this time the bulbs are expensive at about $100 each. My guess is that by the time the bulbs burn out they will be the standard on all cars and Pep Boys will have them for what Halogens sell for now.
I hope one of these answers your question.
How long does the thread last, the group buy last or the bulbs last?

I went to a shop to install my HIDs, and I had a few problems.
First the ballasts (I dont know how you really call them, the part that has the bulb attached to it, black or metallic, Sockate in spanish) is different than the stock one, and they told me it would not fit, exept if I glue them. I want to ask you guys, did your ballast fit perfectly? (the stock one is a metallic piece that has 2 little things, you twist them and it fits perfectly, the aftermarket one doesnt), so what should I do?
Also they told me I had to install them in the High beams (I wanted to install them in the low beams, bigger circle of headlight), but they say thats impossible because the lights are only for high beams, since they have 2 cables (high), instead of 3 cables, used for high/low beams... I dont know anything about this, So I wanted to ask you guys if its possible to install the HIDs in the bigger circle of the headlight.
thanks,
PS: Im sorry about spelling, english is my 2nd languaje...
As far as having to install them as hi beams, that a load of *****, they can and do work fine in low beam. Go to a different shop, or take the day off and play with em yourself. while i was incapable of doing it myself, it doesnt mean its impossible by any standard.

there is a work around, but it is easier to get the settings changed.

i like vadim's suggestion, and some day, i will make an effort to change my lights around too. depends on if the new 2003 bi-level xenons can be retrofitted to the 2002 models.
i finished installing my HIDs today....and the lights just flicker when i turn it on...did i install it wrong? to make matters worst i think i screwed up my car....the sun roo doesnt work...the trunk doesnt open...the blinkers dont blink and the emergency lights dont work...did anyone else run into this problem?? do you think that the dealers will be able to fix all these problems??
#1.
Did some one on the board say that hidforless.com has come out with a bypass part to avoid the dreaded return to the dealer to get the computer reset?
#2.
With the hidforless kits, are there highbeams or not?
