i had the mister jung's HID in my low bean for my bimmer before. it was just plug and play. very easy install. the only downside w/him is that he is so hard to get a hold of. and thats about it. we had a group buy on bimmerforums.com about 20 people ordered through him. no problems so far that i have heard.

Differences in Aftermarket HID kits.... need help

I have a question, need your honest opinions and expertise...

I'm planning to get aftermarket HID kit. The Bi-xenons from Steve or other places are beyond my budget, so at this time I'm only interested in the Aftermarket HID upgrade. I only want to get the kit with 5000K at max...

There are many different brands:

PIAA, Catz, Philips, Hella, Bosch, Korean, Taiwanese, etc...

Does anyone know if there are any difference in brightness, color, quality between all these brands, assuming the Kelvin is the same?

Thanks,
Hendry

in my opinion, philips is the best followed by hella. whatever brand you settle with, be sure that the xenon bulbs are clear, not BLUE. i have seen very cheap asian kits that last only a few months and all use xenon bulbs coated in blue. these are not true philips bulbs but are modified. be very careful, go with the best.

believe it or not, i am talking about real xenons with ballasts. many asian companies are buying philips bulbs and modifying them to be bluer. to do this they tint the clear plastic so that it is blue, thus reducing life and output.

What HID setting do you mean? I mentioned this to my dealer and they didn't know what I was talking about. Could anyone tell me where to tell them they can find it? Or could you give me the phone number of a dealer that knows about this setting so I can call them?

thanks

Timmy, I have HID lights installed in my C230 already. I just needed more info on having the dealer change the setting so I don't get the headlamp out warning. It's ok though I PM'd BAGWELL and he's sending the info for the MB tech to follow.

thanks

Question HID Recommendation

Hi all,

I am looking to buy an aftermarket Xenon setup for my car and was wondering if you guys know a place online that sells high quality kits? Also as far as what temp/light color to go with...I would like something close to the BMW X5's or Audi A4's. Does anyone know what those are? (6000k, 7500k?)

Thanks in advance,
Matt

well, the BMX X5 and A4 both have projector based lighting systems, and alot of the color you see has to do with the way the projector is built. That being said I would go with a 6000K set.

I read some negative comments about their product and shady business practice (not replacing broken ballast and etc) on an Audi forum a while ago. I think they changed their name once to their current name, and before they were selling some no name brand HID on Ebay and now selling Bohmen. Personally I don't know much about Bohmen so I can't comment about it, but be careful though. If you worry, then get the Philips HID, Osram HID, or Catz HID.

HID4LESS.COM - no problem whatsoever. Highly recommend. My service writer complimented me on those and activated the "Xenon" option without a charge.

After more than 1 yr with the aftermarket HID, there is still no sign of problem so far, just a better vision on the road. As long as the ECU is changed to "Xenon" setting present, it will do fine.

There is no way to do it yourself. It needs to be done by a MB dealer. Some dealers have been known to be pissy about this. I was lucky, had no problems at all - just asked my service advisor, and he did it on the spot without any charge - even complimented me on the HIDs.

Aftermarket HID problem on c320

Guys,

I just put on aftermarket HID with hella ballast and some generic bulbs. I thought I got a good deal with this shop, $440 installed so I went for it. Not only it's been a disaster, but my lights kept on flickering. They said, the problem was with the ground floor cabling or some sort and those are common with the w203 C's. Now it's fixed, but same problem occured. The only way I can turn the lights on is when the car is dead. If I turn on the car engine, and turn the hid, it will only flicker and wont turn on. Do you guys think it's normal? or should I have this guy fixed it completely? I'm really pissed at him now cause this whole ordeal took me about 3 weeks of my inconvenience.

What should I do and any of you guys have the same issue with the flickering? is it bad bulbs/cheap bulbs?

nothing wrong with the kit. When the Mercedez computer reconize your aftermarket HID, it would shut it down. You just need to go to the dealer and have them change the computer setting to "Xenon present" then it should work fine.

Help with HIDs (please!!)

I installed my aftermarket HIds today. ( The ones BrabusCclass group buy a while ago, yeah after all this time)

I installed everything just the way it should be (with I I mean me and somebody who knew what he was doing, or atleast more than me)

When I turn the lights on they go on for about 1-2 secodns and then they go off, 10 seconds and again....

I tried turning the car on and then turning the lights on, and I also tried turning the lights on before turning the car on but I get the same results.

I got an appoinment tomorrow at the dealer to chaneg my settings, can anyone tell me what to do?

thx...
