Is the manual wrong about oil capacity?
What gives, does it really take more oil than the manual specifies?

I suspect that the warning device is designed to advise in 1.0L increments.
Maybe if you put 7.5L in at first, you won't see the warning.
Edit: Sorry, I was looking at the non 4-Matic number.
I see you have a 4-Matic, and the doc indeed shows 7.0L.
Still, maybe 7.5L would do the trick.

So yes, I think the owner's manual capacity statements are inaccurate. Best to call your dealer service dept and ask them how much goes into your exact model and shoot for that.

I ended up adding the remainder of another bottle (another 5/8L) for a total of slightly over 7.5L and it no longer complains. When I try the trick readout it now shows 6.8L in the sump after sitting overnight. I'd just hate to overfill it.
The dealer tech told me they always just add 8.0L to every C240 no matter which model.
Either the computer measurement is far from accurate or a good 1.0L remains in the engine and filter that never fully drains into the pan.

The computer measurement is quite accurate on my 3.2L. It reads 7.9 (qts) when left overnight. I put in 8 qts, so it's only .1 off.

Who suffers, I mean enjoys, greater convenience by the omission of a dipstick?
Does the owner who never checks the oil lever realize greater convenience from a vehicle equipped with a cap instead of a dipstick? Presumably they know that hood thingy opens, but would be hard pressed to actuate it quickly.
Does the owner who always checks the oil level at every fill up benefit? The on-board system prohibits usage if the vehicle is parked and refueled, as the time duration is too short.
Does the owner who purchased a dipstick tool and carries it in the cargo area benefit? The tool must be fully cleaned before storage, including the little crevices around the plastic guides, to ensure the used oil doesn’t stain the interior. The cargo area usage must be carefully controlled to ensure the tool isn’t damaged. The tool must be cleaned prior to usage, to prevent crud from entering the engine.
Does the service shop owner benefit? They must purchase and maintain sufficient tools for each work center. Additionally, they must train and maintain documentation correlating models to tool measurement millimeters. They must also ensure that the tool is located and used properly for each service visit.
This examination found lots of groups who now suffer with greater convenience.
With this tool storage, those who purchased stick-less vehicles now have a superior oil level solution than those with the factory dipstick.

There is now a notch to locate the position of the dipstick tip end and to drop this lower into the panel. It was easy to cut this with a utility knife.
A laminated label was attached to the blade, listing the acceptable range, showing the location for that range.
Please feel free to copy these improvements, which are to be called: "the wingless Dipstick Tool Mods".
