For those with PULLIES...

Hi All,

I just got my evosport UDPS installed yesterday, but the engine bay has this weird...rubber-ish smell.

I went back to the mechanic today, and he told me that the smell came from the new pullies, "the new" rubber smell.

The smell weakened a bit today, but was heavy yesterday.

Anyone had the same problem? im guessing this is normal ehh?

"NEW PULLIES/V-BELT rubber smell."

did you install a new belt? could've been the belt. or your belt is rubbing against something somewhere, but if the udps has those new plastic idler pullies it may have been the source of smell.

Unless its rubbing, or not in the grooves, it shouldnt smell any different than a new belt.

the real question should be how does the car feel now? is it running harder?

Absolutely. A new belt needs to bed in to the pulleys. Likely it is coming from rubbing onto the side wall of belt from a pulley.

No biggie, it will go away.

Its most likely because the belt doesn't fit properly with the pulleys and you are rubbing/burning the belt. That's the risk you take when buying atermarket parts that aren't developed together. The smell may go away when you have sufficiently rubbed enough of the belt away.

Pics of it on my car.

Hey guys, Its a few crappy pics, but was wondering if it looks about "right", I thought that the belt was freying b/c only a part of the white "thread" shows, but looking at the pics before install, the belt WAS like that. the smell was light but was still there today.

maybe if mike your here, maybe we can meet up, since were in brooklyn, (sometime this week or so) and take a look at it to see if its on right?

The C320 had very good mid>high range IMO... with the pulleys it just gives it full power throughout at a low cost.. the smell might be just the new belt getting broken in... check on it though.
