never!

when I get home I'll check the offsets for ya. in fact, the rears have 3mm spacers, and I really don't need the spacers and can take them off at any time, but that would mean that I would need to get new lug bolts and new wheel locks for the rears and the rears wouldn't stick out as much...

One with 4 wheels
Looks nice!

The brake fluid flush is something that is included in Service B, right? I'm due for Service B in 4000 miles, and I figured instead of paying $400 for a ridiculous "inspection"+oil change+brake fluid flush, I'd just get an oil change+brake fluid flush, and have them do this mod. This would be a great upgrade for my car!

Stupid question, but the new brake lines works with any rims setup right? (I'm running stock right now.)

Thanks!

it's not included in Service B. so, you'll have to get a brake fluid flush and this in addition to Service B.

it should work with any rim setup.

ok, here are my offsets WITHOUT the 3mm spacers, so add or subtract to figure in the 3mm spacers:

Front +31mm
Rear +37mm

Oh wow, didn't realize your rears were such a low offset! No wonder you're rubbing...should be 35-38ET in the rear with 10".

yeah...i may send them to Carlab and have them machined. but i will try the fender rolling and the bumper trimming first. i would like to keep the 265 GS-D3

although, after i machine 5mm off to make the rear 36mm, will my Stoptech BBK fit?

depends on how much room you have with the rear brakes right now.

Phil;

That is an awesome mod. I am the type of person that does look inside of the wheels as I pass a modded car. BBK is one thing, but when I see SS brake lines, I know two things, this guy is serious, and no way do I want to try to pass him in a curvey.

Thanks E!

I figured you'd appreciate this mod... Even though it's somewhat of a "bling" mod, it's not really one...

BBK comes with ss brake lines. brembo includes the goodridge and stoptech of course uses their own.

Just ordered the STOPTECH SS lines from K1Motorsport. $49 front / $49 rear

other brake-work to be done shortly:
  • CLK55 AMG rear brake kit
  • PORTERFIELD R4-S pads

hopefully all done before the May 12th Rose Bowl meet,
along with other goodies !

I just got stainless steel braided lines installed on my ride. I got the Goodridge lines and the install was $159 including flush and bleed of the system. I had the ss brake lines installed on other cars that I have owned and have been happy with the feel.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
I have been a fan of stainless brake lines for decades. They do take the mush of the pedal of every German car I have owned. It is such a low dollar mod, anyone can do it. The effect is immediate and I feel safer when there is some metal covering the lines vs. rubber brake lines.

I do take issue with using ATE blue or gold (they are identical, and the color difference allows you to see when the old is fully flushed out.) brake fluid in W203 cars. The ABS/ESP unit on these cars is impaired if the specified fluid is not used. The intricate passages of the system require the specified fluid to work as intended.

The viscosity is double in the racing fluid @ 1400, compared to the 700 found in ATE SL.6 fluid. I am not sure if SL.6 is the same fluid as that approved by Mercedes, but the MSDS looks very close. There is also ATE SL, which is NOT the same as SL.6. ATE sells SL.6 in 500 liter containers. That indicates to me that only vehicle manufacturers are buying this size for use in new cars.

For their part Mercedes says:

"Mercedes-Benz DOT 4 brake fluid is available
in one liter (Part Number A 000 989 08 07 01)
and five liter (Part Number A 000 989 08 07 11)
containers. This is the only brake fluid recommended
by Mercedes-Benz for all applications.
This fluid is also used in the differential lock
mechanisms of the G-Class model."

I use Blue & Gold in my Porsche, and it works very well for my level of skill. I would be shy, however, to put it in my Mercedes. The ABS unit is more than I make in an hour.

not entirely true. some people ordered them for maximum lip with it barely clearing the brakes. they would have problem clearing the bbk. my 448r was like that with maximum lip.

Nope. I have free service and they were asking for $500 for a complete fluid flush at 20,000 miles (which isn't really necessary that early).

I just flushed the fluid and changed the front pads. They charged me $300 .

However, braking has been better and screeching noise has been eliminated.
