Dumb question about oil changes

You'll see stickies at the top that encourage new people to search the forums. Largely, this type of question gets answered again and again.
I'm answering because I'm familiar with your area. While MB says every 13k, I would get it to every 10k. While the synthetic oil has a fantastic service life, the dust in our regions is quite high. I hate the idea of my oil and filter being contaminated. I'm looking for 200k plus miles out of my C, so I get ****.
If you are keeping the car for a short time, then perhaps the 13k is the right interval for you.
Welcome aboard, and do ask questions after you have conducted a search of the forums.

since then, most of us have no complaints about the long intervals (as far as I can tell).

You must also use the specified fleece oil filter. The filter and oil are a designed system to supress sludge formation.
If you have an AMG vehicle, the change specification is 10,000 miles/1 year for most recent versions.
I know quick change oil shops swear 3,000 miles is the limit, but they are selling parafin based oils (Dino{saur} juice according to one vey smart moose) and seeking more business.
I think it is false economy to change oil more often than specified. Mobil 1 has a history of engines running 250,000 miles with virtually no wear. I don't change my tires at 50%, or brakes at 80%, so I wait until the service interval is reached before sucking 8 quarts of oil out of the engine.

And my favorite:

Thanks! I guess I probably over reacted a bit.
I'm hoping to learn lots from all you guys here and to thoroughly enjoy my new car. I have learned lots from the Corvetteforum for my vette (been on that forum for many years) and it is a wealth of knowledge. I suspect that is the same case here.
It has been interesting looking under the hood of the C230....it is quite a bit different from my Vette. I'm still trying to figure out how to check the oil level. Have not found a dipstick (I only took a quick look).
btw, I have a 2005 C230 SS.

Imagine my shock when on the last oil change I let the dealer do. they mark the invoice w/ 8 Qts of oil...WTF?!?! I ask them, you put 8 qts in? "yes sir"...you sure "yes sir".....me: Soooo explain to me why the manual clearly says 5.8 qts of oil for this car and then explain to your store manager/owner how you plan to put me in another vehicle since you put the engine in this one in jeopardy. The look on his face was priceless. So after he went off to check, I hopped in, went into dyno mode and saw the level was fine. He came back saying it was typo. I told him to prove it. He said they could drain and refill. I then let him off the hook. Last time the dealer has seen my car for an oil change.
. Too bad I can't expect the same reaction when I pull in for my Service A in a couple weeks
.
It's on the back side of the engine, by the firewall.
The M272 engine family - 4 valves and one sparkplug per cylinder - all have engine oil dipsticks (2.5L, 3.0L, and 3.5L), and no menu readout.
I've personally seen the 2.5L and 3.5L engines, and their sticks.
The M112 engines - 3 valves and 2 sparkplus per cylinder - do not have an engine oil dipstick; just the menu readout.
Same for the M271 engine - 1.8L Kompressor.
I think 13k is too long between oil changes, so I change mine every 5k, plus the fleece oil filter.
