Question Just picked up a 05 c240 4 matic. Any known issues I should check?

Just picked up the car two days ago. 05 c240/4matic with 22,000 miles for $27K.

Car drives well but too slow and alot less agile compared to my bmw with 2.5L engine.

Car is near perfect condition, only thing I found was when I turn on the headlights, I see that the drivers side rear red corner light is a lot brighter than the passenger side. I checked the bulbs and they are both OK. I also swithed them around but problem is still on the same side. It looks like bulbs have 2 flaments and drivers side bulb powers both flaments vs. passenger side bulb is only lighting one of them. This is not the brake light but the corner one that lights on constantly when the lights are on.

Any troublesome areas, recalls, tsbs that I should check out with this car? If there is a common problem(especially with 4matics), I would like to get it fixed before warrenty runs out.

That's your rear fog light. When you switch your headlights on, pull the knob out; first click is front fog, second click is rear. Of course you push it in reverse to turn fogs off. Now that's how it's done on my 03 don't know if it's the same for 05 but it's in your owners manual if you have it.

edit: you know your BMW has a rear fog as well, this shouldn't be new to you.

No I know what that is. The problem is drivers side lights up twice as bright as the passenger side. Bulbs it uses have 2 seperate flaments in them. It looks like drivers side bulb lights up both flaments but the passenger side bulb fires only one of them.

So are you guys saying #1 lighting up twice as bright as #2 is a normal function?

I hope so, because mine does the same thing! However, it's not rare for me to get strange malfunctions with the lights in the rear of my car. I often get "check your left license plate light" or "check the right license plate light" sometimes, I don't get any malfuntions at all. Really strange!

it is normal... i thought my car had this same "problem"... but after asking around i found out that the rear fog's do this so that people in front of you wont think you're breaking. if both lit up just as bright, it might throw people off...

you're car is fiiiine

Yes, when you pull the knob out to second click w/ lights on........ and again that's your rear fog light. Your BMW is the exact same way, it will only be bright on the drivers side; but of course you knew about that too.

Nope don't have that feature in the BMW. OFF-PARKING LIGHTS-HEADLIGHTS plus have seperate on/off button for fog lights. BMW has 1 sided parking ligh feature for street parking where you can leave left or right side parking lights on but nothing that will light up one side brighter than the other.

As long as it is a normal action and not a electrical glitch, I am happy. By the way why couldnt they just put a dam on/off swith for a fog light. I actually had to read the manual before I figured out you can actually put that switch out. Overengineering at its best.

Thanks I got a thing for red cars. Last 5 cars were all red.
I love the blue that I saw on a c230 kompressor but I dont know the name. It is a light cool blue. As well as Laguna Seca Blue for M3.

I will shoot for blue for the next car. If I am gonna spend $30K for a car, I wanna make sure it is rare. Even though there are lots of MB & BMW on the road, rare color still get attention and stands out.

Sorry, didn't know U.S. spec'd BMW's had a different light switch than it's European spec'd ones. European spec'd BMW's has two smaller fog switches (front & rear) where your one big fog light switch is.
