I wouldn't worry about bi-xenons or 6 speed................ after all, this will be your fourth car with a focus on fuel economy. I like it, looks really good.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
On the subject of fuel economy my experience is that the weight of the car had more effect than the size of the engine. Now, driven to extreme the larger engine is capable sucking gas like a party of eight year olds with a pitcher of Kool-Aid. Driven in a similar manner the fuel econmy will not differ more than 10% between a C230 and a C55.
If you want to save fuel, a smaller engine will not aid you in that quest, but a lighter car will.

I couldn't drive this car like my CLK if I were going downhill with a heavy tail wind.
I drive the **** out of my CLK. It's not going to be sold, nor traded in, and I put the money down for it in cash when I saw it because I knew this one was going to be around a long time. I maintain it to the umpteenth degree and baby it with everything new that looks even remotely worn. However, I drive it like I stole it and I'd have to step UP in motor to even come close to buying anything that would get driven like this does.
I just want something "nice" that looks good and gets reasonable gas mileage. The Jag was a present to the lady of the house, my Lexus has been here 6 years and is stale. The BMW was my gas beater, but it's getting outdated to the point that I don't want to drive it (E36).
In reality my CLK is the perfect car for me, I just want to squeeze some more mileage out of a gas beater car. If I were going to replace my CLK it would take more than a 6 speed and some headlights

for better gas mileage you have to combine a lot of variance into the equation which I don't even want to hurt my brain talking about it because it would take too long. i.e. gear ratio, drag, tire size, tire pressure, quality of gas, how fast you are going, etc etc Going 65mph is proven to save the most gas, but I don't want to drive that slow.
the fact is the C230 will avg better gas mileage compare to his CLK430. I'm guessing the 430 avg 18 and the 230 like most people avg some 23-25mpg. i think that's more than 10%.
