Ah, how's the airflow? Did you by any chance get dynos done before you did it? I'd be curious how it is on a NA car. Usually you'll see 3 inch piping on force enduced cars.

The motor runs great without the resonator. Plus it drops maybe 20 lbs. But it's no turbo or anything. I can't imagine it adds much HP, maybe a couple if any. No dyno. I might have it dyno'd when I do the ECU and headers. That would be interesting.

From my experience with Normally/Naturally Aspirated cars, 3 inch piping is too big and it causes a loss in power, but if it seems to be working then maybe your car dispels the "myth" about bigger piping on NA vehicles.

I was actually considering getting custom cat-back piping made, but I don't think it's necessary for the 230K (m271).

I went with the stock size pipe, 2 1/2" inside. I think you are right, bigger (in this instance) is not always better. Good cylinder filling and emptying (as well as scavenging) has more to do with the velocity of the charge and not the volume of the charge of air that is moving through. Exhaust pipes that are too big can hurt back pressure and kill any scavenging after the exhaust valve(s) open. I think you really want the size and shape that will produce maximum velocity so more air packs in and is drawn out on the exhaust stroke.

Hahaha...sounds like a porno!...

But, in all seriousness, yes that's similar to what I've learned over the years. Considering the stock piping is somewhere between 2.5-2.75 on the 230k ss, I'm very pleased with how it responds, especially with the Kleemann Trap muffler.

All this thread needs is a cheesy sound-track. But I tell ya, all this talk of great sounding mufflers, when (if ever) will there be a few options for the 3.5L W203?!? I have found over a dozen that say they fit the C230, C240, C320 and C32 and maybe one that says it will specifically fit the C350. Anyone know of a good sounding muffler that will definitely fit?

That looks about the same size piping that is on my 07 C230. 1st thought I had, was that piping is too damn big for a small 2.5L motor. When I get a chance, I'll put a micrometer on it and measure the diameter.

Actually, from what Cory (Kleemann USA) had told me, the trapezoid exhaust will work for the V6 models also as long as the piping is close enough in diameter. If this fit, I'm sure all the other makes (i.e. Remus, Brabus, Carlsson, Weltmeister, Eisenmann) would work...just check the piping size first.

I think it was the best decision I ever could've made picking the Kleemann muffler. Very deep sound, don't need to take off the resonator and is a pretty straight through design. And I love the trapezoid tip because it's unique compared to the others.

He said he put in 3 inch piping, so he's got custom piping. As far as I know (unless they changed it), stock piping is somewhere between 2.5-2.75 stock on the w203 (I think sport models, but may be across the board).

Well...I said screw it and decided I could always get the resonator put back on. I can tell a difference when driving; the sound is more present. In the before and after videos I took, there's not much difference. If anything, it removed some weight.

Yup, just as predicted. The "after" sounds growlier. Much nicer sound without the resonator.

Interesting. I couldn't distinguish a difference. I'm glad you did though.

It's during the higher RPM's on your rev's. You can hear the muffler more.

Fortunately for me, I acheived this type of sound with my Kleemann muffler on my 230KSS w/o removing the resonator.

I know this thread is way old and buried but I just did a res. delete today....and I guess I'm one of those people that don't notice a difference...but some people say they notice slight droning in the cabin (not annoying though). I was wondering...is there a video/sound clip of the M271 motor with secondary cat delete that advans mentioned?
