I think you answered your own question there.

My roof does creak, but I'm such a fan of it overall that I'm willing to put up with it. Also, turn your radio's volume up - works for me!

So the car is supposed to maintain itself?

I have to keep putting gasoline in my fuel tank because every few hundred miles the fuel reserve indicator comes up on the MFD. My dealer says there is nothing they can do and just keep telling me to gas it up. I never expected to have to visit a gas station with my new Benz!

Does the manual mention anything about keeping the panoramic sunroof lubricated? I don't know the answer, but if not, I'd suspect that it's up to MB to keep it maintained.

Thats odd...I have my car for several months now, 12,000 miles on her, I use the roof everyday its not raining, and no sounds out of the car when its closed at all. No rattles, squeeks, etc.

Well, lets see there is a big hole in the roof of your car that of course lessens the structural rigidity of the roof line and you wonder why it creaks. All moonroof's from all manufacturers squeak eventually. That is life, if you did not want creaks and squeaks you should not have gotten the pano roof. There is no way to ever totally eliminate this issue, if there was every manufacturer would do the fix and then we consumers would have to ***** about something else. Also glass and aluminum have diferent expansion and contraction points, meaning aliminum will expand and contract at a far diferent rate that glass, so there is really nothng you can do, unless they go back to making aluminum panels and then we would crab about the fact that you can't see through it anymore. Just deal with it or get wrid of the vehicle there is no fix for this problem and most likely never will be in the near future. We need clear aluminum to fix it and I don't see that happening anytime soon. And squeaky roof has nothing to do with quality or quality control. I assume this is your first vehicle with a moonroof so I will give you the benifit of the doubt on this one.

Go to ANY vehicle brand enthusiast forum and you WILL see complaints of sunroof squeaks.

That's a bit of a generalization, IMO. The moonroof in my '99 VW Passat did not make any rattle or squeaking noises in the 3 years I owned it. Nor does the moonroof on my '02 C240 which is coming up on 2 years in August. I wonder if the panoramic gaskets are different than the sedan roofs, because last time I looked at mine, it was set up differently from most other cars -- the way the gasket surround is designed, without the usual "tray" which catches any water that might make it past the seal. Our new Acura TL, on the other hand, has started squeaking, and I think it is the gasket -- I'm going to try and lubricate it...

Well, the pano does have a diferent design and is a heck of a lot larger. It is a big hole so I just look forward to the squeaks. Plus that non-moveable rear glass panel, being there can not help. The whole roof is glass except the support beam in the center and the glass all melds together so there is one heck of a seal up there. If designed well the roof should not really squeak until the seal gets dirty, worn and dried. But sometimes they just squeak due to the temperature. As well as the hot to cold to hot again cycles and how wide they swing in temperature. I use mine all the time so it gets a lot of travel. Maybe this person does not use theres and the seals were a little dry.

This is a 5 min fix. I had the same problem this winter and it was driving me crazy as well. Get some silicone spray from your favorite store (usually a hardware store will carry this stuff). The more silicone the better. Tilt open the window (don't let it slide back). You should be able to see the rubber gasket/seal for the window on the metal support beam in roof (where the shades come out. Spray that gasket/seal fairly heavily with the silicone from outside of the car. Immediately close the window so the mating surface gets coated as well. Then open the sunroof as far as it goes and carefully spray the tracks along the sides. I used a paper towel to screen off any overspray. Close the window. My creaks and groans have been gone now for 3 months.

It has been back to the dealer twice. I don't know what they do to it, but it stops the noise for just a few weeks only.

I have heard some people say - just keeping lubricating the seals. But should I have to do this on this quality of car?

If it continues, I am seriously thinking of getting rid of it!

I've seen complaints about the noisy pano roof as early as July/August 2001 and it kept me from getting the pano roof. Yes, it does look great but I can't tolorate sunroof squeaks and creaks and I can tolerate the heat from the desert sun on my bald head even less, even with the shade. Keep bringing it in to the dealer, eventually they'll figure out a solution. Like Benzer said, twice is nothing, that's how many trips to my dealer an oil change takes.

It'd still squeak, tho'...it's not the glass that does it, it's the frame. But you knew that.

I get your point - it would make it (a lot) lighter. Sounds tempting...

Yeah, I don't care about the skweeking....

I just want to get rid of the extra weight. Back seat is coming out this week. That is a legal wieght reduction. :P

Edit- My pano actually doesn't make any noise. If I haven't opened it in a while, it;ll pop when the gasket if broken free from the glass, that is it. My hatch makes more noise. I also have the hatch carpet, and cover removed. That and my tools are the biggest noise makers. But the bass from the bose sounds better.

Naw, it is going to be a two seater... I need the bolts from the backseats for the harness tie downs. The last x I slammed my knee into the door and actually broke skin. I want to be strapped in from now on. Anyone wanna help me build a roll bar for cheap?

btw, I want to lower it more now but I'll need to grind the end of the sways down more so they don't hit the lower control arm

Hand held wheel grinders rock.

I hope that you're taking spine compression into account when you're designing whatever Frankenstein harness setup you're going to be doing. You're short enough as is! :p
