my panorama roof blind doesnt roll all the way up!?

somehow the black cloth blind of the panorama roof doesnt "tuck" in the blind complete leaving some unrolled at the edge just like you dont tuck your shirt into the pants completely. what should i do? bring it back to the dealer?

Hi! Brand new to the forum but had my silver coupe since July '01. I had a similar problem. Went back to the dealer and they replaced the rolling mechanism for the blind and haven't had any problems since.

nope, My C230 has the best color on earth -- Magma Red -- 10 times better than Orion although Tommy wont agree with me

I believe Tommy's problem is more serious, my blinds close perfectly except you have to manually "tuck" in the last remaining edge like your mommy tuck in the shirt for you when you are 3 years old

It took the dealer about 1 week to get the part in and then labor wise it was approximately a 3 hour wait.

Talking

Pardon me for seeming happy about someone else's misery, but it validates my thinking of the blinds to hear of other peoples' problems with theirs.

Yes, mine was much more severe than yours; the tension roller broke on it, and the blind just hung limp from any position that it was in. It was replaced in 3 days (they had to remove alot of headliner crap to get to it), and it's worked fine since. But, I have left the blinds open since, as I just don't trust the whole system.

One thing, though. I had a day or so when the system worked the way that you described, so keep watching it. Before you go to the dealer to have it checked out, try to syncronize the sunroof assembly, the instructions are in the manual. If that doesn't work, then it's off to the dealer for you. Keep us updated on your progress, and good luck. I'll also ignore the color comments from people here, as it is obvious that they have had too much egg nog to see the clear superiority of Orion.

Ford Taurus... I wish.. I didnt buy the car in the Bay Area and I didnt have a 100K CL 500. Last time I check said they (Smythe in San Jose) couldnt provide any loaner - not even a neon. are they supposed to provide free rental car if loaner car not available?

Question C230 Sport Coupe Panoroof

I am in the market for a C230 sport coupe for my wife. When the sunroof opens does the glass stay inside the car or slide back over the rear fixed sunroof. I saw a photo which looked like the glass was on the outside of the car over the rear glass. Thanks in advance.

C230K Coupe Panorama roof pic for jpgroom.

System won't let me reply to your earlier thread, so here's a new one...

The neat part is that the sunroof runs from one side of the car to the other (30% wider) than a traditional "sunroof." The outside "passover" looks alot tidier than on other cars, too.

Thanks for the pic. I am not sure why the outside mounting makes me uncomfortable, maybe it's all the dust here in Phoenix. I am going to order one Orion Blue with Auto and C2 package. I notice many peope on this forum get the c7 wheel package, is this a recommended option. Thanks

Talking MB-BOB, let me take this one.

Yes! I have not heard of anyone here who regrets the additional $750 cost of the C7 package. Especially since you're in AZ, where you won't have to worry about getting snow rims/tires.

Jim, I wouldn't worry about the sunroof going on the outside. If you have it open, you're driving it, so dust won't settle. Also, you won't be trapping anything in the area that would be between the outside and inside layers of the roof, if you had a sunroof that went inside the roof. The glass is either half full, or half empty. You decide.

You might want to reconsider the color, though. It's pretty ugly! As far as other options, the Bose upgrade and the cd changer, while pricey, are good choices.

C7 will be money extremely well spent in my opinion. You will end up with much more than just the wheel upgrade. I didn't get it and I am paying now.

The C7package has such appeal because of its value. It's almost impossible to buy a Mercedes wheel upgrade for $750 in the aftermarket, let alone throw in the other goodies. (I think it's been posted here that the wheels alone (without tires) sell for $1150.) So, the package is already discounted, plus you get the bigger/better tires, and all the other goodies, some of which you may care to have. If you like +1 wheel/tire packages and the style appeals to you, it's almost a no-brainer.

I go back and forth over the external roof retraction. While it's arguably true that the exposed mechanism is subject to more contaminants, it's probably also true that an internally stowed roof would be harder to fix once it gets gunk in the mechanism. The internal option may not accululate as fast, but it will do so, and you don't have ready access to pre-empt it from happening. On the other hand, because the external roof is exposed, you DO have access to clean it occasionally. To me, it's more a style issue than maintenance question. And, as noted before, this roof looks less tacked-on than others.

tommy, We're thinking alike again! I would have left your comments be the word, except that I didn't see it, because I've been busy trying three tries over a 20-minute period to post this one, and yours came in during the interim... Geez, I can't even post replies to a thread that I start. That SUCKS!!!

C230 Roof Question

I'm new to the group and have been reading all the posts. Now for one of my own.

I have a Silver C230 on order with the pana roof option and wanted to ask if heat is problem in the summer. As a South Floridian, I'm concerned about the fact that the roll up screens are both black and uninsulated.

I have the glass roof here in SoCal and don't think heat is a problem. The color of the car will more likely determine how hot it gets.

Just sticking my nose it because I'm curious... I know that the underside of the shade is Black, but isn't the upper surface (exposed to the Sun) a lighter color?

IMO, the color of the interior plays the biggest role in determining how hot it gets inside. The Pana roof is darkly tinted. My guess is you'll get more solar radiation through the windshield and side glass than the Pana roof (unless you tint them (and I assume you will in FLA)
