Who needs a Prius?????????
Did you cruse on highway while engine is idling at 1800RPM down a slope on top gear for 5 hours?

nice! looks like you brought the car up to speed, let off the gas while going downhill and reset the computer!
that's some good isht! especially in a 350!
Mine drinks petroleum like a there is an unlimited supply.
Coasting down a hill just after a reset it does quite well though.
Only 103 today?? Have a friend in Tempe/Queen Creek with whom I visited last August. At least it's a dry heat!

On a flat highway when I've set the cruise control at 55 mph, the computer states that I can travel 767 miles on a tank that I just filled up in.
Basically, I'd never buy a Prius unless if I was seriously in a lot of stop and go traffic with an excessive amount of idling. During those rare times I am in traffic, simply adjust the transmission so that it doesn't shift above 3rd gear, turn on the audio system and enjoy the concert hall on wheels. I wished that Mercedes-Benz USA would continue to import the 4-cylinder models. The power is sufficient for every day use (barely, I must admit) and the fuel economy and range per fuel tank is superlative.
You can probably tell that I don't like filling up at the gas station.

Fact is, our cars get 50 mpg in Europe with less power, Dieslel, and less highly tuned M271 engine (check the UK site).
Fact is, the ECU can be set to get better mileage with lower octane gas, and then set back to higher power level when needed but MBZ isn't about to give anyone access to the software needed to do so.
Fact is, all that fancy electronics and batteries, creates as much toxic waste and disposal issues, or greater than most normal cars.
I've heard it take as much energy to produces a hummer as a Prius.
I'd say more.
Fact is, here in the US, we're beta testers for these new type of vehicles, instead of just making the C180 available, or the C220Cdi.
Edit: I have quite a bit more than half a tank and I'm already at 150 miles since my last fill up. Gotta love it.

I have gotten 31mpg before but that was through Indiana where it was nice and flat and I didn't have to pass anyone on the wrong side of the road.

The UK testing for fuel economy is different than ours, also they have a different standard for the gallon.

On average I get about 300 miles per tank. I was driving through most of the LA/OC area from Manhattan Beach to Irvine
